remove HCl from methcath

hi,
this is gonna be my first post on blue light after reading many many pages here,
over a long time. but now i got a question which i couldn't answer by using the forum or the rest of the internet . some time ago i got some selfmade methcath stuff from a friend of mine.
he told me that he used too much hydrochloric acid during the process. well, and the smell of it was like that, too: HCl
The crystals are a little bit brown and don't seem to dry out properly also but the colour isn't my problem. Now... how can I remove the damned acid without destroying the cath? My idea is to dissolve the cat in distilled water and add some sodium hydrogen carbonate to neutralize the acid. after that i would boil down the whole mixture again. would that work? or would it possible destroy or damage the cath?

I find if your going to the trouble to create methcath, then you might as well go through the trouble and make meth. Methcath sucks ass. I made some and its not nearly as fun as meth. ITs not at all euphoric like meth...and just generally gives me a horrible feeling of stimulation that just sucks.
WHen I vaporized it I did get a decent rush... But the taste was to0 gross and the fact that its just the stimulation of the meth high without the euphoric feeling also turned me off. I hate just being amped out. I like actually feeling good.

well, i can't find what i am looking for. sure, the cleaning with acetone method seems good but i wonder if it will remove the HCl also.. any suggestions?

Your friend can make methcathinone, but he can't do a simple recrystallization?

well, excess HCl should simply evaporate when you dry your product. it's a gas (and a corrosive one, work in a well ventilated area).

Dissolve it in water, check the pH. Recrystallize.

well, i don't know why he didn't remove the HCl or whatever, I just got this stuff and i'm a little bit afraid of loosing it while the cleaning procedure because it's only about 200mg. i know it would be better to get some more from a better source but .. whatever. i want to use this stuff. at first, thanks to all people who answered my stupid questions! but i got one more... what can I do if after dissolving the pH would still be <7? adding sodium hydrogen carbonate? or would it destroy the methcath-hcl?

i don't think that the pH will be significantly under 7. it depends on how much lye you add. with so a small amount i'd recommend basifying dropwise with a quite diluted solution. if you don't basify above 10 (which would at least as bad as a pH of 4) i wouldn't expect problems. in fact i'd guess that you'd be safe if you don't cook it at pH 13+, but i'm a bit rusty with my organic chemistry.

Why would you do that? you don't want to convert it to freebase. As I recall freebase mcat is rather unstable. It may not form dimers like the primary amine would, but it's still unstable.

You dont want to get rid of the HCl you can just use it "as is" (however since you mentioned a brown color i would recrystallize it). I don't think you understand the purpose of having powdered crystals vs freebase. It's the HCL that makes it a powder. Go look in your medicine counter right now and see what it says on a bottle of tylenol. It should list the active ingredient as "paracetamol.hcl".
