My friend was looking for treatment here in the uk and had already been offered a 12 step approach. Though the centres website declared that they treated "dual diagnosis", the truth was that they had no effective treatment for trauma, PTSD, Bi Polar, or any other specific diagnosis! This seems to be the case in many of the facilities we looked at. Rekindling House in Luton are one of the only "Dual Diagnosis" centres that offer residential treatment for Trauma in the UK. Any one else who has been disappointed by a rehabs claims would be pleasantly surprised to see the excellent treatment offered there.

Here in the US it is very difficult to even find a psychiatrist or psychologist that will treat dual-diagnosis.

That is interesting. Would you like to expand on why that is?

When we were looking for help for my son psychiatrists and psychologists and even many therapists refused to deal with someone that was "dual diagnosis" based on the fact that they could not determine what was an effect of drug use and what was an effect or symptom of mental illness. I found this to be a false or at least, irrelevant, paradigm. At the same time, I do understand the difficulty. My son's addiction was to MDPV, which did in fact often cause psychosis.
