Hey all, I live with the parents, and I am going on 19... I have a steady job (seasonal) and work with my father whenever I'm not working at my other job, and things were going great for a while... Until they caught me smoking pot again around a month ago. 2 months before that, I had a drug overdose on Phenazepam, the legal Russian benzo with a half-life of 60 hours. That's a whole different story, but basically why I'm here is because they are really upset with my marijuana smoking, and believe that it not normal to be smoking by myself... I tell my father that I like to enjoy a nice bowl or two when I get home from work, or if I'm just around the house with nothing better to do. And I also tell him it is not like I am drinking by myself... Obviously, I keep it to an outside thing, by not disrepecting him and smoking in his house.

Basically, they're fed up with it. A week ago, they hit me with an ultimatum: Go to rehab, or get out of the house (giving me 3 weeks to find a secure location). They recently found a place that accepts my trashy insurance (Medicaid). I talked to the woman in charge of the place on the phone today, and she questioned me, asking how old I was, then if I was being pressured or forced into doing this, which I blandly replied "yup..." followed with a sigh, and which drug(s) I am abusing. I responded with marijuana instantly, and she had a sense of disbelief in her, and asked if there were ANY other drugs that were being abused, and of course I said I drank alcohol on occasion, but it was not of concern, I mean, who doesn't party from time to time/get together with friends for some drinks?

After this, I passed the phone on to my mother, who then talked to her and I heard something about her not drug testing me, and that they would administer one (which I'm not worried about). The lady on the other side then proceeded to tell my mother that I was not eligible for rehab.

A question I have is, is there really a "rehab" for marijuana, or anything similar to that? I am primairly looking for something that is an OUT-patient program, and that will readily accept my insurance. I'm really honestly trying to do something to make myself look good again to the parents, and just to really shut them up about all this bullshit and just "go with the flow". Any resources out there?

honestly i don't really understand why the woman at the treatment facility said you weren't eligible. putting certain beliefs about marijuana aside, it IS still a mind altering substance so what's the difference? it's not life threatening in the way that cocaine or opiates may be but it still may be used to suppress emotions.

personally though it sounds like your lifestyle doesn't mesh with that of your parents so maybe look to save some money, get out of the house, and live life the way you choose to.

Do you want to quit? There is no sense going if you do not want to quit. It won't work.

You already sabotaged the opportunity to go to the rehab you interviewed with. 3 months ago you OD'd on benzos, but it sounds as if you minimized your drug problems during the interview. Take the help if you know deep down you need it.

If you want to shut the parents up, then get your own place and be an adult and be responsible for your self.

But to seek therapy and lie the whole time wastes a lot of time and energy and money for everyone involved. I can't get behind that. I hope you will see what you are doing and "man up". Which way you go is your decision. Life is simpler if you are honest with yourself and others; even if others disagree with your choices.

best of luck.

Thanks for the responses. I guess in my last paragraph I was going about the wrong way of saying I'd just do it....

ive known like one person to go to rehab for cannabis.........i dont thinks its really necessary unless its that 1 percent category.....

Tell her the withdrawals are terrible because you don't crave a single bonbon or hoho when your off the pot.

Heres an idea:
if you dont want to get kicked out, dont smoke weed?
You're legally an adult, you can be held accountable as an adult for your actions, and your parents have every right to throw you out if you refuse to follow their rules.

yeah really at 19 you aren't ready? you have a job? so what's holding you back? Go smoke a bowl after work, there's nothing wrong at all with that; your parents are being unreasonable then again, it's their house, their rules. Your out-patient program would last about 3-4 days lol, seems like you are fine and that your use isn't even out of control. Either quit to keep your parents happy (it's not that difficult and if you make it out to be an awful experience maybe you'll gain some extra respect from ur parents haha), or live your own life.

Some people do go to rehab for their marijuana use. I met a bunch of people there that just smoke joints all day each day and end up neglecting other aspects of their lives. It doesn't matter what the substance is but rather the impact that it has on you.

If you don't think your use is problematic and you know that you'll just lie during the therapy, there's not much point. Your parents can do what they want whether their judgment is fair or not, so you'll have to decide whether you want to be dishonest with them about it or move out and become more independent so you can do as you please.

Yeah I can see why the woman incharge of the rehab place was irked. Its a waste of time and money for you or anyone to be in rehab for cannibis. Anyone who smokes weed often is doing so out of boredom. It isnt physically or mentally addicting. If someone really has any desire to stop smoking weed they can, its all about their desire to smoke outweighs their desire to not smoke. Its an easy choice, unlike being hooked on meth or heroin. People dont go knocking old ladies over their heads for their purses to score a bag of weed. You dont go through any real withdrawl symptoms and she realises your parents are just forcing you to go to rehab to make a point and set an example when there are really people who have serious drug addictions who might be better off using that funding instead of some kid wasting their time and money.

Like others have said, you are an adult now, either do what your parents tell you, stop your "reefer madness" in their eyes and let them pay your bills, put a roof over your head etc or become a responible independant adult and move out. Besides, they should be content it is all you are doing, and that you are not strung out on any hard drugs.

When I was caught with a little bit of weed at school I was put on probation and had to undergo mandatory outpatient treatment. It was a scam really, I had to go once a week and was charged $100 each trip. However, I was uninsured so I really didn't have to deal with all of that. I've heard of people recieving inpatient treatment for weed, so it's not completely unheard of.

Oh its a scam alright, a scam to take your money. Alot of cities and towns are doing it. They bust you just because they know they can make money off of you, not because they actually care about your welfare.

i dont know if anyone mentioned this but i had friends go to rehab for smoking herb, and i would say 90% came out and in time were more fucked up , then before they went in , hearing all the war stories in rehab , made them wanna try other things,

Yeah I can see why the woman incharge of the rehab place was irked. Its a waste of time and money

and a waste of a bed in my opinion for someone who really needs it,

here's a question..... if your parents kick you out for smoking dope.... are you still going to have a job working for your dad in the off-season? Seasonal work is not steady employment.... and you'll need full time work (or more) to live on your own.

If you'll still be allowed to do that work for your pops, regardless of your weed habit status...... seems to me the issue isn't so much an issue with weed, but either an issue with their established wishes & rules being broken, or just tough-love crossed a touch of hypocrisy.

What you're missing is that it's not *your* house; and that by your admission, the problem stems not their forcing you into a rehab for weed, but from not respecting their decision as your parents and elders.
Just because *you're* not ready (whatever that means), doesn't mean you have a choice or say in the matter. Obviously you don't, and by trying to poke holes in their decision and rationale, you're not doing anything to help your situation.

Either change your lifestyle and accommodate your parents wishes until you *are* ready to gtfo; leave now and do whatever you want; or continue being obstinate, and risk doing even more harm to your family relationships.

It may be my asshole opinion, but no matter how much they may pissed you off.... they're not worth forfeiting for the sake of your feel-good treat like pot. While they didn't do anything so drastic after your benzo OD...... it is obvious that along with that incident, your pot and alcohol use has confirmed in their minds that you have a drug problem, and need professional help before they'll allow you to live there. Hell, be thankful that they care enough to even give you a deadline to move or make whatever decision you make.....

Stop looking at this as an adversarial, life-is-unfair, I-don't-have-a-problem, problem.... talk with them, compromise, and hug it out. They love you, and life is fucking hard and dangerous on the outside....... give that up early, and you'll wish you hadn't later..... because its super hard when you burn bridges over petty shit. Even though being 19 makes you legal, and you feel like adult.... you've still got a lot to learn about making adult decisions..... and your folks have been at it for longer than you have.

Ever think maybe experience counts for something? I wouldn't allow anyone but me to smoke dope under my roof, simply because of the great fuckin headache it if the police come around... because it doesn't matter how old they are..... its still MY house and my responsibility.
And by doing illicit drugs on their property..... you're putting them at risk.... a far greater financial & legal one than the risk to yourself for jailtime and fines.

Don't fuck it up before you've even started just because someone tells you NO and you don't agree with it... ... or even know that you're completely in the right.
The thing is.... even as a full grown adult, you'll still have to do a lot of shit that you won't like or agree with.... and you'll have to keep your mouth shut and suck it up.... especially if you want to live a comfortable, free lifestyle later.

Why not respond in a more rational way? Dick... And because I'm not ready to.

Actually thats the most rational and upfront response your gonna get lol;

Its simple if you wanna live with your parents sounds like your gonna have to follow their rules, if you dont want to; I'd start thinking about your future..

I wasnt trying to be a dick sorry to be honest :(

Moving out is a little harder than that. Maybe the time you moved out of the house jobs were everywhere and everyone was buying apartments and houses, but not now. I've been trying to (re-)move out for about a year. But the economy isn't making finding a better job/job at all easy. I see your point, I'm not trolling you. I agree with you. Just not as rashly.

In any case, I live with my parents right now too bro. Their house their rules. My folks are cool with weed as long as I do it where I am staying and am away from the house. I don't follow it ALL the time but I'm getting a freedom most parents don't give so I tend not to overstep my boundaries. Your best bet man is to just follow their rules in their house. They don't want you to smoke? Cool. It will get you guys back to normal and while you're pissing clean you can look for a better job, move out, and decide from there if you'd like to continue your hobby.
