Redosing Opiates (oxycodone in particular)

90 minutes ago, 20 mg oxycodone was consumed orally. Would it be safe to take the same amount 3 - 5 hours from now? can similar effects be expected, or should more or less be taken to achieve and maintain the initial buzz? would ativan (1mg or less) help

yes, similar effects will be retained, but really just prolonging as you're redosing without coming back to base.

ativan is another class of drugs - benzodiazepines - and won't produce any effects like oxycodone.

Oxycodone half-life is around 3 to 4.5 hours, so redosing 3-5 hours in will to a large extent just be topping up the level of opiates already lost to metabolisation. Depending how quick the oxy get's into your system, redosing the same as the initial amount may add a little to the sedative effects for an hour or two but unlikely to be massively more noddy or depressant on CNS or respiratory system I wouldn't have thought.

It's kind of hard to tell you what's going to be 'safe' for you without a little bit of information about you.

How tolerant are you to these drugs? I'm assuming you don't take them regularly by the tone in your post. The dose you took was common-large for a non-tolerant user. I doubt you'll have any issues if you were to redose but I'd advise to skip the benzos. Combining those two classes of medicines, especially for a nontolerant user (if that is indeed the case) adds many variables to the situation and can prove unpredictable. If you're nodding or feeling the effects of the first dose quite well at this point in time, the extra 20 mg might make you a little queasy.

I highly doubt you'd be in any danger of respiratory distress if you dosed again. PM if you have any questions as I feel this question has been answered thoroughly enough.

On an side note- the first time I took oxycodone was when I had obtained an 80 mg pill from a friend for free. They were at the time unheard of in the area and he was selling them ridiculously cheap. I was naive and young, maybe 16 years old. I took half and felt absolutely amazing for 2 hours then was sick for a day. Had to lie down or I would vomit. Was awful.

If you are going to redose, do so at 1 hour intervals. I usually do this: dose X mg Oxy, 1 hour later take half of that dose, 1 hour later do a half dose again. Also, white grapefruit juice (12 - 16 oz, 1 hr before first dose) does a great job of extending the buzz of oxycodone. In fact I would say the redosing I do at 1 hr and 2 hrs after first dose sort of allows you to "step up" the buzz beyond the initial high when white GFJ is used.

^the white grape fruit doesn't so much increase effects, it inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme quite nicely to slow the break down and extending the overall effects.

Thanks for all the input. I did 1/2 the amount and got briefly stimulated again, but then more sedated.

I have a follow up question: if 20 mg of oxy makes me buzzy and talkative, how much will it take to nod?

nod is a pretty controversial term, there's no definitive meaning, is just a personally subjective opinion.

slowly titrate your dose up by 5-10mg every 90mins or so to get where you feel most comfortable.

The other thing you can do is reduce the amount of oxy (to say, 15 mg) and add 25 mg Benadryl. Benadryl is an opiate potentiator and has the added effect of drowsiness once the initial buzz wears off. You need to use caution though, I would definitely use less oxy than 20 mg your first time with this combo.
