Hi! :)

I am a recovering Ketamine addict.

I have used and abused a wide variety of drugs for about 16 years.

For 5 years from age 21 to 26 i got totally hooked on Ketamine. I was using round the clock 24 hours a day, and became seriously ill, i was in and out of hospitals and no matter what, i could not stop.

I am now 7 months clean, I went to 2 rehab centers, one for 3 months and i couldn´t stay clean or get rid of the obsession to do drugs until i was put me in touch with a 12 step fellowship and program of recovery, This is the only way i have been able to stop. Rehabs, shrinks and just a desire not to do drugs never helped me.
I had to stop contact with my using friends which was hard but the friends i have made in recovery are true friends today.

I just really wanted to reach out say hi and maybe find someone who identifies with me..

K was the most psychologically addictive drug i have ever come in contact with and nearly killed me as well as sending me totally mad. It ravaged my body, giving my kidney stones, permanent liver damage, i lost all sense of taste and smell, i had respiratory arrests, chronic cystitus, onset of schizophrenia, i couldn´t leave my house, or hold my attention to anything. I was completely obsessed with K and the next high and if i couldn´t find it i would substitute it with anything i could get my hands on until i did.

I am now free from this terrifying cycle of addiction i never thought i would ever be able to kick. I still suffer from an obsessive mind that i am learning about but life is now better than i could have ever imagined.

Anyway, Hugs and love - please get in touch msg or email me for support/chat.. T x

I'm happy to see you to beat that addiction. It can be really hard, I know from experience, I'm a recovering heroin addict. Grats on your triumph.

I have found ketamine to be the most addictive drug I've tried. Luckily it's hard enough to get that I am forced to take breaks periodically.

A lot of people say just this. For me, ketamine is not addictive at all. I don't find many drugs to be addictive personally. I found heroin addictive and there are drugs I am more likely to use on any given day that I have access to them (like meth, or d-amp) but that's it.

Congrats on your recovery!!! Well done, it is amazing to read positive recovery stories, it gives me hope and i'm sure it gives others hope as well. I wish you the best of luck on your continued road to sobriety.

I too am an addict, have been addicted to opiates for a couple years. Started doing them when I was a freshman in High School, by the end of High School I was addicted. Right now i'm on the sub train..sometimes I jump off it only to come runnin back to catch up to the train ya digg hahah!!

Thanks guys!
I had to come to the realisation and concede to my inner most self that there would never be enough for me and that i would die in the persuit.
´1 is too many and 1000 never enough.´ I had to accept this in order to surrender and ask for help to work the 12 steps.
It has been a battle but i only have to not use drugs one day at a time and have a good network of support.
I have now got what i was searching for in drugs from recovery, peace with self, confidence, freedom and happiness.

Some drugs are more addictive that others ie. heroin is very easy to become addicted to but once you have got off them if you are not an addict you probably won´t do it again.
An addict has no choice they are pre-disposed to do drugs whether they want to or not and thus have to find a solution.. mine was 12 steps.
:) Rock on!

Hi!

First off, congratulations on overcoming a dependency. That is a n enormous accomplishment.

I am curious if you could give details on the first days of the addiction. I feel as though this may be very helpful to those just beginning regular ketamine usage. Could you define the difference between physical and mental addiction? Is the week after a K binge normally filled with thoughts of "cannibus or liquor is not enough"?

I have never had a problem with ketamine; however I knew friends who would use huge amounts compared to what I could stomach, and that really shocked me. If you are using over a gram in a day, you're on your way to having a ketamine problem. You may be able to stop yourself in time, maybe not, but please, don't take it to that level. Just my 2 cents. Use it only once every two weeks, max, unless you're prescribed it for a medical reason.

I certainly agree that 1 gram + per day would be a red flag. I am not concerned for myself (or anyone else in particular for that matter). I was simply curious about any possible effects that are unique to this substance when addiction begins. I suppose it would simply be the "typical" combination of "yearning" for the effect along with physical effects of dependency. But perhaps Ketamine has something unique to its addiction phasing; that was my reasoning behind my original post.

Ketamine addicts often face bladder problems as ketamine is damaging to the bladder.

Capt: DO you know on what timeframe bladder problems can begin to apear and then also what these specific issues are?

ive been doing it for years..........only once every couple of months mind you........but propper benders......im pissing fine!!!

I was addicted to K for almost 2 years this was 1999 mind you, but K is no joke its highly addictive and can really detach you from reality. Its q scary drug. I had a car with flat tires in my driveway for a year because I could never drive. I had to kick it in jail, thank god jail scared me enough to never go back when I got out. Congrats on your succes with the 12 step. One day at a time. You will get better and better.
I haven't touched k since 2001 i was in a hole the morning that the twin towers got hit, I thought I was just dreaming cause I was so out of it. A week later I was in jail its a scary thing tocome off of in jail but Iglad I did. I have had other addictions since and no long term damage from k as far as I or my doctorscan tell. 5 years is a long time but stay healthy and you will feel better and better as time goes on.

Carrot-E and iloveeenimatek :

I am glad to hear that you both seem to be experiencing little to no health related issues thus far from the ketamine use!

Is there anyone here who HAS had issues (particularly regarding the bladder? If so what was your usage like and how soon did the problems begin? Any other comments or details are welcome.

I am a ketamine user, i have being using this drug now for 6 years. At first it started out doing it on nights out every weekend, to then suddenly doing it alone in my bedroom, at first i was able to get totally off my face on tiny lines so a gram would last me the whole night.... as time and months went on i started noticing that i was having to do atleast a gram line to feel the buzz. I am now currently sniffing atleast 3-6 grams per day. I have severe bladder problems, i am unable to hold urine for a long perioid, most i can hold it for is maybe an hour max, the pain when i piss is awful, i have pelvic pains aswell. I have had times when i havent taken ketamine for a couple of months and my bladder probems got better, but then i started sniffing the shit stuff again and it has all started to come back the pains. I know that the pains will go away if i stop sniffing ket, but i am totally addicted to it, its become part of my life. I have lost various jobs and relationships due to my habit, but still nothing seems to scare me or want to make me stop taking it. I am unable to function properly, i cant go on nights out with friends because as soon as i start drinking alcohol i am straight to the toilet pissing. I am afraid of using public transport due to me not being able to hold my urine in, and i end up pissing myself. I always tell myself that i am gonna stop taking the drug, but the power of addiction beats me and i end up sitting alone in my room snorting ketamine. I really do want to quit, but i have no will power or strength anymore and i dont know what to do, maybe the drug will be the death of me i dont know, but one thing for sure is that ketamine as ruines my life.
