Recovering from ibuprofen overdose

I know I know, sounds a bit pathetic...

I overdosed on ibuprofen a few weeks ago (bout 6-7 weeks ago I think) because I couldn't be bothered to do a CWE on a very large number of codeine pills (I know it was incredibly dumb, I really regret it, will never do that again). I think I posted something about it on here actually. Anyway I ended up the sickest I've ever been in my life and spent a couple days at the hospital where I was given activated charcoal. My problem is that my stomach seems to have become super sensitive to opiates/oids since then, ie. whenever I take a high enough dose for it to be effective, be it codeine or heroin, I just throw up. This absolutely never used to happen. I'm not asking about how to bypass this for purely recreational getting high purposes - I'm prescribed DHC daily for pain and I haven't been able to use it effectively because of this. I've been taking some sort of stomach strengthening med (not sure what it's called sorry) but it doesn't really appear to be working.
Basically the very thought of swallowing anything containing ibuprofen or paracetamol makes me incredibly nauseous now...I need to be able to take my pain meds without throwing them up 30 minutes later :\

Does anyone have any experience with this? I've asked my doctor about it and his answer was just 'give it time' but if anyone has more productive and helpful solutions that'd be awesome...

NSAID's cause issues to the GI tract even at regular doses (eg. perforations, bleeding, ulcers), let alone an overdose. I think giving yourself time to heal would be your best bet.

If the problem persists, I encourage you to press the issue with your doctor, and demand that he investigate further, as there could possibly be an underlying issue.

Sounds psychosomatic, you could use an anti-emetic (if you don't find OTC ones effective, cannabis is an option) until you get over it. Since you use H, simply using an ROA that guarantees absorption and just tolerating the vomiting is also possible.

Yeah, I'm sure it's at least partly psychosomatic, but I do think my stomach's been weakened considerably as well. I took around 200mg codeine last night for pain, which is a tiny dose for me, and I still threw up :\
It's more for the codeine/DHC that this is a problem since yeah, with the H I can just use another ROA.
I've been taking OTC anti-emetics and they haven't been helping that much...I might ask my doctor if there's anything stronger he could prescribe me.

Yeah...especially since I've been on ketoprofen daily for quite a while, and that one supposedly really messes with your stomach. Not a great combo.
I guess I'll just wait and see then, hopefully it'll get better soon and I didn't actually cause any long-term damage.

Cheers :)

I'm not sure if this is medically sound, but after I had drug induced bleeding/effed-up-ness in the stomach or small intestine a few years back, my stomach has been 'weaker' and more prone to vomiting than before.

What OTC anti-emetics have you tried thus far?

Hey Pagey. I had an apap overdose several years back under basically the same situation - wanted to get well, didn't bother with a CWE. It took me a couple years before I could ingest any amount of apap without throwwing up. I'm sure it was all in my head but it was miserable.

Also, I was taking a ton of ibuprofen everyday due to the effect my job was having on my body, until I eventuall developed an ulcer. Since then my stomach is much "weaker" and a small dose of nsaid's seems to hurt.

Yeah, that would make sense. I hadn't really realised how sensitive the stomach is to all this before now. Really messed it up :\
Ermm I've tried Kaopectate, Dramamine (which is an anti-histamine but supposedly good for nausea), Motilium and a couple others I can't remember...quite a few really.
I'm wondering if the fact that they're not helping might be purely psychosomatic though. Although it's much worse when it's a pill containing ibuprofen/paracetamol, the idea of swallowing any kind of pill makes me really nauseous which sort of defeats the purpose with an anti-emetic...

Hmm. How about taking the painkillers in rectal form? There's e.g. tramadol suppositories, at least where I live.

Hah, I'm feeling really dumb right now but I hadn't even thought of that for some reason. Yeah that's probably what I'll have to start doing...I'm really not a fan but it's better than no pain relief. Thanks :)

Ouch, a couple years?! Shit :( I was hoping this would be over in a matter of weeks but I guess not...well, it's certainly a good reminder not to be reckless with drugs :\

(p.s. Love your handle/picture)

You could always try ginger/ginger tea (it tastes good at least). Rx anti-emetics like ondansetron would likely be better. But if it's all in your head, then maybe they're only good for placebo effects, I dunno.
