I've been on an 8 day bender after being diver for a month. I've been inpatient detox for alcohol before. I have a xanax script for anxiety. How long should i wait after my last drink to take one? I have vitamins and food if i feel like eating.

You said you've been to detox - what type of withdrawal symptoms do you get? Have you had the shakes/tremors, hallucinations, etc? Xanax isn't the best for dt's since it has such a short half life. I would recommend taking a half of one when you start because you'll have to redose every four hours based upon your symptoms. I would get the shakes and tremors in my withdrawal, and aside from feeling like death, it was never anything too serious so o would refrain from using benzos to help with the come down.

How long have you been on Xanax and how frequently do you take it? Also, how long have you been drinking, the average quantity, and the frequency at which you drink? Are you wanting to get sober or are you wanting to recover from the bender? No right or wrong answer either way - I won't judge. I was a 17 year hard drinker and a 10 year benzodiazapine person, so I have insights either way, and tow years sober. Alcohol addiction is brutal and so is Xanax, so I can certainly relate to how you are feeling right now. Sorry for all the questions, I can better answer your post having those answers.

I drank a 750 a day for the last 8 days or sometimes a few shots and a 6 pack. I was shakey, nausea, high blood pressure (not dangerously high), tactile hallucinations, and lots of sweating in inpatient. But no seizures.

Just eat clean, drink a lot of water, and try to sleep as much as you can. Take a multivitamin, some magnesium, and a B-complex. You should be fine in a few days. No need for Xanax. Have you already contacted an outpatient facility to make arrangements - if not, I recommend you do so. You may also want to schedule a few sessions with a therapist so you can find out what's driving you to drink and work on those issues. Lastly, I f you find you are having cravings consider getting the Vivitrol shot or the naltrexone pill, though in my experience the shot is more effective. It stops cravings, reduces anxiety, and blocks any type of pleasure from drinking should you slip (drinking is really gross on the shot) for 30 days. Good luck! Please keep us updated :)
