Recommended Suboxone Dose?

I've been taking, on average, about 150mg oxycodone IR for the past 6 months, daily, with some breaks in between due to low cash flow or lack of sources.

How much Suboxone would help with withdrawals from this dose of oxycodone? How bad can I expect the withdrawals to be? I've tapered to 45-55mg over the past few days, but I've been feeling fairly crappy.

I have acquired some Suboxone (5x 2mg pills) in order to hopefully cushion the crappy symptoms. What would be a good dose to help with the oxy withdrawals? Is 150mg/day enough to cause bad withdrawals? Will the Suboxone help at all? I have 120mgs (4x 30mg pills) of oxycodone and 80x 5/325 Percocet to taper down with. I'd like to do this with minimal discomfort... (but wouldn't we all?)

Can anyone give me any advice on what would be the best method to do this? And how should I use the Suboxone? I've read up on it but am still a bit unclear about certain things. For example, the precipitated withdrawal from the naloxone. If I am already in w/ds but taking oxycodone, is there a point in taking Suboxone? I'm sure this is child's play for most of you but I've never been this deep with opiates.

Thanks for any help! I hope this is in the right forum. If not, mods, feel free to move!

Hey there. I recommend checking out The Suboxone Mega Thread and FAQ. It should shed some light on many of the basic questions you have, regarding using suboxone to aid in opiate withdrawal/detox. It can be a 'wonder drug' of sorts, if used in the correct manner, to come off of opiates with minimal discomfort.

Unfortunately I have to run at the moment so I cannot address every single one of your questions individually right now, but I can return later.

But just a couple quick things -

Precipitated withdrawals are caused by the buprenorphine in suboxone, NOT the naloxone. Precipiated withdrawals happen when you take suboxone, too soon after your last dose of a full-agonist opioid (such as oxycodone, heroin, etc..) The binding affinity for buprenorphine at your opioid receptors in the brain, is greater than other full agonist opioids. So if you dose suboxone, when you are not feeling substantial withdrawal symptoms, the bupe will basically 'rip' the remaining oxy off of your receptors in a violent manner, causing horrible withdrawal symptoms to be brought on in a very quick manner. This is a horrible experience, avoid it all costs. Basically, you need to wait a good 16-24 hours after your last dose of oxycodone to dose any suboxone.

If I were you, I would save your suboxne for now, and use all your remaining oxycodone to taper yoru daily dose down. That way when you finally stop the oxy, it won't be such a giant leap to taking nothing, and the transition to suboxone will be much easier.

That said, a 150mg/day oxycodone habit is not MASSIVE on the grand scale of things. If you were to switch to suboxone NOW, I would imagine the first day, you would not need more than maybe 2mg taken twice. Also when you take suboxone, the best method is to use it for no more than 3-5 days, and to taper yoru dose down with this as well.

I can answer more questions later but I have to run momentarily, I apologize.
