Recommend some more good movies per post

Mesrine is very over-rated.

Part 2 is probably more enjoyable.

You're talking pish. It's a modern day classic gangster film and part 1 is clearly superior. :p

I've just watched Dinner Rush after someone recommended it a while back, simple but good, I like. %)

There's not much depth to Mesrine. It's just a puffed-up psycho killing people... and it's also quite repetitive in places.

Part 1 left me wanting more from the central character, because although Cassell is fun to watch in parts, the role is very one-dimensional. Part 2 fleshed things out slightly more as he got older, but the flashes of vulnerability seemed a bit tacked-on to me.

It's clearly a lot more than a psycho killing people, seems to me like they did a great job of portaying the real life Mesrine from what I've read of him. Great fillm, great character, great actor, great everything.

When I watched it was definitely one of the best films I'd seen in ages. There's no hope for you I'm afraid Tambo, maybe the new Shrek will be more your thing. :p

spade never mentions specifics in his critiques, just says the word great/shit over and over again and hopes you don't notice that even he is not sure why he likes/dislikes something.

What made it good:

1. It had Vincent Cassel in it.
2. It was French and had gangsters in it. French films are great. Gangster films are great. French gangster films are even better.
3. Great story line, even better that it's a true story.
4. Stylish and cool as fuck.
5. Action packed.
6. It had Gerard Depardieu in it.
7. Top notch acting.
8. Pretty thrilling / gripping stuff.
9. Well shot / directed.
10. Anyone who doesn't like it is clearly a big pile of merd.

Only saw it for the first time yesterday, Deadly Friend.

Synopsis: A lonely teenage genius has only two friends in the world, a robot named Bee Bee and his neighbor Samantha. When they are both involved in an accident, he attempts to save them by pushing technology beyond its mortal limits into a horrible new realm.

It stars the rather delectable Kristy Swanson and the not so delectable, yet awesome Anne Ramsey (that's Mama Fratelli from The Goonies to me and you), and includes possibly one of the most amazing death scenes ever. :D

^ Ahahahahaha! Never did see that one but that death scene just sold me. Genius <3

Le scaphandre et le papillon is a great film. Apologies if its been suggested already as i havent taken the time to read the whole thread.

Seconded. On paper it sounds like a nauseatingly sentimental pile of steaming shite - just the kinda film I usually avoid like the plague. Luckily I hadn't read much about it to put me off before I saw it and was well impressed. Top film. Albeit a somewhat different type of greatness to TG's recommendation.

Track it down, Sham. It's more cheese than gore though, so don't go expecting to be spooked or anything. I seriously had my doubts as to whether I was gonna make it until the end, but I enjoyed the entire thing. You've gotta love the 80s for producing such nonsense. :D

And speaking of which, since I know we have a similar appreciation for trashy films, can you recommend some crappy low budget horror from the 80s. I already have my eyes on Don't Go In The House, and New Year's Evil...you know the kinda thing. =D

The sequels 2 thru 4 are unrelated, though equally as trashy.

Someone name the film, it's about this couple and an old friend of theres being out in the woods at a cottage, they go for a walk and encounter the not so friendly locals and it ends in bloodshed. The result ends up being a fight to the death, with revenge in mind. It's got similarities to Straw Dogs, the cover of the DVD is red and has a bloke with a shot gun on the front. I thought it was called something like 'Woodlands' but google and lovefilm brings up nothing.
