I could give you 5 Beatles songs I 'like' but that's it. The wife is a huge fan, but has never managed to convert me.

Tarantino films annoy me in the same way that John Malkovich does.

Hard to explain why though. When I see Malkovich I want to poke his creepy wee eyes out. And Tarantino films give me a similar feeling.

Weird.

And it was Reservoir Dogs that started my resentment off.

fair enough, i'll let you off with your strange opinions purely because i agree with the sentence in bold

There is nothing more diverse than personal taste.

It's like Curb your enthusiasm. It is total Marmite. There is no middle ground.

Totally cringe worthy situational comedy that either hits the spot or leaves you feeling a bit creeped out.

Could you lovebirds take it to PM or the Gibberings thread or something? I'm trying to get some movie recommendations in, here :D

Just watched Gothika. Kinda meh. Lightweight horror/thriller, nothing too scary and no nudity. Could have been interesting psychological drama but went for cheap, obvious thrills.

Ahhh, i hated Gothika, was one of the worst films ive seen in my life and Halle Berry was terrible in it too.

Aidan Breslin is a bitter detective emotionally distanced from his two young sons following the untimely death of his devoted wife. While investigating a series of murders of rare violence, he discovers a terrifying link between himself and the suspects in a chain of murders that seem to be based on the Biblical prophecies concerning the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death.

Watched for the third time with one of the commentaries on last week, maybe watch with the cast commentary this week:

Wasn't available for years on vhs and then dvd, though I had the sequel Bride of Reanimator which is pretty good fun. Recently watched the 3rd one and its ok. The director of the sequels Brian Yuzna is sort of the dependable middle of the road horror director eg none of his films quite work, are obviously made in Spain and have very good effects to make up for plot holes and other inadequacies.
Anyway the first one is directed by Stuart Gordon who did good horror films in the 80's and sort of went off the rails a bit after, although is a respected genre dude.
On the commentary he was talking about coming from a theatre background and knowing fuck all about film and just made it because someone said that if he could make a horror pic for less than $1m it would make its money back and prove that he could do it(certainly guaranteed in the mid-80's anyway). So he watched numerous horror films with the producer and between them and the DP worked out how to make this film.
Anyway its one of the best 80's horrors and not in a so bad its good way, but a proper good way.... if you like horror/gore with a few laughs.

^I've never seen it all the way through. :(

Over the Edge is a film directed by Jonathan Kaplan released in 1979. Due to the negative publicity surrounding a wave of recent youth gang films, Over the Edge had a limited theatrical release. It stars Matt Dillon in his feature film debut.

Because of its depiction of teenage rebellion, drug and alcohol use by junior high school students, a sensational depiction of suburban life in the late 1970s, and a rock music soundtrack featuring such bands as Cheap Trick and The Cars, Over the Edge has achieved cult film status, and was an inspiration for the music video for the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana.

According to the director's and writer's commentary on the DVD, Over the Edge was inspired by actual events that took place in Foster City, California in the early 1970s. Those events were chronicled in a 1974 article titled "Mouse Packs: Kids on a Crime Spree" from the San Francisco Examiner. The writer of the article, Charles S. Haas, went on to co-write the screenplay.

^I've never seen it all the way through. :(

Does this translate as "I just can't get through it as it sucks:|" or "various things have stopped me from completing the task even though I like what I have seen and would very much like to watch it all:)"

Anyway I like it, although not as much as FROM BEYOND which I used to have on vhs and have been meaning to watch on dvd for years. Definetly more fun and bombastic than reanimator. Have wanted to watch DOLLS since it originally came out and I believe its about time I did.

It's more like a, "it was on very late, therefore I couldn't watch it on a school night" kinda scenario. Although the opening scenes didn't quite get me as enthused as I anticipated. I was expecting something more like Creepshow. T'is not what I got. But I shall give it another go, should the occasion arise.

So you're saying its been on tv? On UK NORMAL TV?
When, how, why? I mean are you saying that channel 4 showed the uncut beast at midnight on a Wednesday in 1996 on something?
Where the fuck was I?
Fucking TV and its hatred for horror....I didn't watch Hellraiser, Nightmare on Elm Street, Alien until I was nearly 16 (91 - 92).....due to not being allowed a video player in the house and only getting to watch stuff at other peoples....hence Robocop, Predator, Total Recall....
I had horror books and read Fangoria in the comic shop, but getting to see the stuff has been a slow-dragging out 2 decades...

Summink like that, yeah. Though probably a bit later. A few years ago perhaps. :D

What a shame. Though I was forced to watch such classics by my older brother when I was but 5 or 6. T'is probably what contributed to my fucked up imagination. :\

Grrrr your quote is from my 1st draft;) My spelling skills are about as good as Caizar on everything I type tonight. 3 drafts on everything:|

When I was in juniors 83 - 87 the video nasty thing was in full swing and there were a couple of kids in my class who watched all sorts when they were 7 onwards:|
I don't believe in the 18 certificate, but there are many films that pre-teens should not watch. Its fucked.

I'd like to see it. It previewed at the Edinburgh Film Festival a few months ago but I missed it. If I've time before I go away I'll check it out.
