Hey, Earlier today after smoking a few joints, i had this really bad chest pain, like someones squeezing my heart and left lung. Its about 6 hours on from that and the pain hasnt gone away or subsided at all. It hurts especially when i breathe in/out heavily or swallow.

Im quite young and in quite good shape, gym reguarly ect

Is it something to worry about? Does anyone know what it is and when will it go away ect

All help appreciated :)

this has happened to me, posted on here too and someone else also. im unsure as to what to suggest as a cure. its kinda like theirs a knife goin into ur <3 and when u take a deep breath it goes in deeper and when u do shallow breathing its a lot less, breath shallow! rite?

chest pain is serious and marijuana has been known to cause cardiovascular problems, occasionally even in young health people, so i would see a doctor.

Unhelpful. Not the time or the place for this kind of comment. -- MDAO

Hmm, its about 18 hours on from now and the pain hasnt gone away, seems to have got a little less painful, or maybe i've just got used to it

Anyway i'll leave it and see how it goes

I get this when I take a really hot toke like from a short metal pipe.

It almost never happens to me if the hit is cooled down, like from a bong with ice water.

Maybe its the heat irritating the inside of the lungs?

More likely esophageal/tracheal/lung irritation, or if you suffered a coughing fit it could possibly be a spontaneous pneumothorax.

Generally speaking, inspiratory and expiratory pain is not something to be concerned with. Especially considering the circumstances. However if the pain suddenly worsens or you begin to have difficulty breathing, see a doctor immediately.

Try to refrain from smoking until the pain subsides. Even longer would be ideal.

*Disclaimer*
I am not a doctor but I play one on tv.

see your doctor immediately. i don't want to scare you, but it's not uncommon for congenital heart defects to show up in healthy people at any point during their youth.

personally i would see to it that a cardiologist is visited, because you could very well be endangering your life by not getting an echo cardiograph done asap

thujone u serious? I probably should mention those things to a dr. then huh? 18 atm first one rli fucked up thing my <3 did was at 14,

I highly recommend you take a break from inhaling ANYTHING besides fresh air and any pulmonary medications as prescribed by your doctor. I'm talking a month or so. If you feel the cannabis itch too strongly, take it orally. If after a couple of weeks this problem is just as bad as before, see a doctor and be very upfront with him about all your inhaled/smoked drug use, ever.

Never forget that human lungs were never designed to handle smoke, and anything besides air has the potential to damage them, no matter how benign the substance you inhale is to any other part of your body.

If the pain subsides readily as you stay away from smoking anything, I highly recommend you switch to a method of cannabis inhalation that involves a minimal amount of quality product. A small pinch of organicly grown high potency weed in a vaporizer, one hitter, or bong (in decreasing order of favorability) is far kinder to your lungs than any amount of joints.

Yeah i've had this feeling too, felt like my chest became really tight, only lasted about 20mins though..

But yeah 18hrs on sounds pretty serious.

Seems to be okay now, went by itself, but i'm gonna try and take a break for a while anyways

Thanks guys :)

Did you check your pulse rate? if you were having chest pains and your heart was racing and or beating irregularly then you might want to see a doctor

also keep in mind a strained pectoral muscle can also cause a lot of the problems you're describing. did you do any push ups yesterday? lol

COPD = what?
semi-related heart story:
One day i was just walking in the halls at school and my heart went from normal beating to this really rapid machine gun fire rate spas, a few people near me i made feel it and they freaked out, they said i have 2 c the nurse and then b4 i got their it stopped, also it fucks up some other hardXcore ways but still

Get the COPD? WTF? Is that like getting the clap?

Google it before claiming someone could "get the COPD". pft...

I get this really bad if I smoke after doing chest exercises the day before.

It feels like the increased blood flow makes the sore muscles more sensitive and the increases heart rate makes it feel like there is pressure.
This freaks me out still, but if I let my muscles heal for a few days then smoke there is significantly less discomfort.

But like others have said, chest pain is not normal. I would quit smoking and doing upper body workouts for a week.
Try smoking again at the end of the week and see how it feels.

The idea of a heart condition scared me and it caused me to panic, which only made it worse.

This is only my experience and my guess, I have not seen a doctor about it.
