Reading books while high?

Goddamned right i do that, friend! weed is what got me back into reading; got with the thompson came to the kerouac went to the burroughs and others. Fantastical, makes the moment even better when you come across an match in your mind and the text. It can lead to problems in short term remembrance but just reread if you dont understand.

i've never been able to get into this habit myself. i also find i can't write when i'm high. the ideas just don't reach me with a level of coherence and that really ruins the flow of what i write, as well as what i read. it's like my mind is an engine while sober, running clean and capable of overcoming obstacles to reach greater understanding and then getting high is like filling the gas tank (and driver) with moonshine.

i would really love to read the lord of the rings, but since i have already seen the movie i would probably get bored..

i found i couldn't even get through the first chapter before watching the first film then i got interested enough and read all the books before the second movie even was released.

there is actually an immense amount of shit in the books that was entirely left out of the movie and completely diluted it's essence, so i don't think you would be the least bit bored and it's probably the perfect thing to read while high since you already know the basic path of the story.

i used to do this alot the first book i did this with was about a year ago, ya a lil book called fight club and by then i had already seen the movie a thousand times. so i borrowed the book from a friend he said it was by far the best reading experience he has ever had. I read through it and totally agree its ridiculously better then the movie and that is a feat unto itself.

I love reading while high, but it takes me forever to finish even a page so I tend to stick with shorter things like poetry and aphorisms. Also, I can't have music playing because it distracts me from reading even more than when I'm sober.

dr seuss is what works for me. seriously though i wouldnt be able to remember anything ive read so whats the point? all the comments are making me wanna try this actually....

LOL i read like a fucking retard when i am stoned... like seriously, i cant read any faster than i speak.. and i read it like im speaking to a crowd or something... takes me FOREVER to read a page letalone a book. So no, i dont read while im stoned, because its a waste of my high.

agreed lol i dun think i could concentrate enough. much rather stone out to a movie , a book would put me to sleep

I read shit for school all the time when I'm blazed.

I also read books. Mainly just HST though.

It's hard to read because I can't focus on the text through the tears from laughing so hard.

I think I become dyslexic when Im stoned. Because it's sooo hard to figure out things when reading. Haha

Absolutely, I love reading when stoned. Although I like to pretty much anything stoned. I rarely read fiction though. After meaning to for years I finally read Kitchen Confidential last week. Anthony Bourdain rocks.

Great thread. Reading is a very different experience for me when I'm high. It's harder to concentrate on long paragraphs and craft the plot of a long narrative in my head. I enjoy stoned reading much more with poetry or my favorite, quotes and proverbs from ancient and famous mystical text, including the bible. Reading the bible stoned has brought me closer to my faith. Not necessarily because I found a deeper meaning when lifted, but more so becuase I originally started to read the bible stone becuase I thought it would be a funny idea one day and actually found a genuine interest in it.

EDIT: LOL, I never thought of trying Doctor Seuss. Not the deepest of literature, but would be fun and nerdy as hell to read aloud with friends. I'm adding this to my list of things.

Dean Koontz books also make superb stoned reading;) The Taking is an awesome stoned read if you enjoy surreal apolyptic storylines.

I can't believe I just saw the words 'Dean Koontz' and 'superb reading' in the same sentence.

audiobooks when high kick major ass too, for those who get too retarded to actually read. wonderful for lying out in a sunny field with a bunch of dogs.

the few things i can not do while high is. Read and eat food. dunno what it is about reading but it really isnt interesting to me while high. trust me its not that i dont like reading, in fact if im on the computer im either playing video games or reading stuff off the internet. as for eating while high. dunno, i just cant. its to weird to me lol, however when im coming down i get a bad case of the munchies! OM NOM NOM NOM

I do my russian literature readings high all the time. Stuff becomes more interesting. Not sure how good my memory of it is, but otherwise I might not read it at all :\

I love reading while stoned. Best book I ever read while high was "dreamquest of unknown kadath" by h.p. lovecaft. You want weed to make you trip balls then i suggest you read it. Its a book that you can read in one sitting, but i would always trance out and have a out of body experience when I read it whilst high, like lucid dreaming to the point where shit from the book is happening before your eyes. Beautiful stuff to experience imo

I find it hard to do sometimes, but other times its really awesome. Few years back I re-read the hobbit high...it was epic. I have pretty good imagination imagery when reading a book normally, but when I was high it was really clear.
