Newer preparations of Oxycontin are being sold with microencapsulated naloxone (an opiate antagonist which blocks the effects of opiates). With this newer product, if the pill is taken orally, the naloxone is not released and the opiate has its desired effects. But if the pill is crushed then the naloxone is released along with the oxycodone and the opiate is no longer effective.

I dunno, but to me that really doesnt make too much sense....
cuz if you take it orally, it *eventually* all gets dissolved anyway, and whatever would be "released" by crushing it, would get released just the same, although maybe a bit slower...
doesn't add up to me...

i read an article in my health class about that. It did mention something about them having trouble with it though.
 
well oxy is time release, people crush it so it all gets released immediately, which means you exceed the regular doese for a recreational dose. If you always had to take OC's with the time release you couldn't have much fun with it.
 
yeah, but this would still take some time to put on the market. so enjoy while it while you can.
 
They are waiting for the patent to expire on the current pills. It will probably be some years before these new pills are on the market.
 
So, even if the stuff was in the center, people who actually need this shit wouldn't be able to take more OC until the previous dosage and the naloxone were out of your system. Then a bunch of cancer patients be a bit uncomforable in a matter of hours.
Off hand, does anyone know when the patent expires so every minor pharmacuticals supplier is copying a versioN? I've also heard something about the idea of OC's being simply made illegal? Any truth to that rumor?
 
Some people were lobbying to try to get oxycontin made illegal. The fact is its much to wonderful a drug, and it benefits the economy! I doubt it will be made illegal, ever.
 
If this evil nalaxone is in the center of the pill... you'd have to patiently shave off the outer desired oxycodone... like you'd be discarding the tootsie-roll center of a tootsie pop... but it can't be that simple.
if this is the case, us druggies would just have to work a lil harder to get high. Christ, I'd be motivated to go that extra mile
 
Someone asked about OxyContin being made illegal. The head of the DEA made a statement that I read in the Washington Post a few weeks ago saying that they do not want to make the drug illegal, they understand it is a miracle drug when it comes to pain, that they do not want to deprive legitimate patients of it, they just want to stop it's abuse.
As for nalaxone, I don't think it would be a problem as far as abusing it orally. Just disolve the pill in a cold beverage (preferably something that will cover up the taste) and drink away.
I'm sure people will have found some other nifty opiate to abuse by then anyways.
 
I presume it would work by putting the naloxone in tiny capsules which are not digested but can be crushed open, a bit like the time release stops all of it being disolved at the same time by having different sized capsuals (as in width of skin on capsule). Dosn't sound like it would be to hard to implement.

Don't worry about it yet .. there will be no new forms of OxyContin for awhile, and once they are out we WILL hear about it (we will also find a way to hack them out) ..
The new forms will be a tablet that doesn't disolve, but is passed through your body solid - the narcotic will be released but if you crush it, the effectsare not as strong.. not sure about the specifics, but some heart medications are like this ... I will find some specifics about how they work..

Why not just let them be and eat a shitload? Prices will go down once pharmacists start assuming they are no longer abusable.
 
The new oxy pills are not as complicated as you guys are guessing. Naloxone, th
e opioid antagonist, isn't orally active, at least not at reasonable doses; it g
ets destroyed in first pass metabolism before reaching the bloodstream. So if y
ou take the pills orally, it doesn't do anything. If you snort them, smoke them
, IV them, or shove them up your ass, the naloxone doesn't get destroyed and wil
l cancel the oxy's effects -- and possibly precipitate withdrawal, if you're add
icted.
You should still be able to crush and eat em, for all that's worth. I've heard
talk of putting naltrexone (active orally) in a wax matrix or something to preve
nt this, but I'm not sure if that works or not.
 
Just eat 2 80s whole and thats like 4 percs an hour in your system every hour for 12 hours

OxyContin is to large apart of my life to be bitchslapped with their "anti-abuse" pills... PhreeX Industries Inc will find a way to make these fun... still, please don't even speak of such evils because it's killing my buzz to even think of my beloved OC's being gone... chances are I would eat the barrel of a 12 gauge and pull a Kurt Cobain*.....
*Kurt Cobain was a lamer, his music sucked, his wife is ugly as shit, and no one even liked the faggy Mcfagfag until he blew his skull off... I know, I want to be cool so I will write "KURT 4-EVER" on my backpack with white-out..
