Reaction with part A of Simon's Reagent?

I tested a product recently with Mecke, Marquis and Simons. The tests all indicated XTC like substance. The Simons however reacted to blue before dropping the B part on the sample. Any clue what this may mean?
 
The sample could be alkaline, although it would be a bit unusual. Perhaps the product contained some freebase that hadn't been converted to the salt. If so, it would be effectively like having the buffer present when testing with simons.

If this were the case, the other tests should have reacted quite violently with the sample.
