Does anybody have any reliable information about the legal status of research chemicals in Japan?

I remember various RCs a few years ago, 5meo-dipt was popular in headshops. Up until recently, all synthetic cannibinoids were legal, though disappeared around last month.

I heard they have a clause denoting illegality to possess amphetamines and any unnaproved analogues, though this information remains unconfirmed.

Do they have a compound analogue clause that would cover all chems of the phenethylamine and cathinone chemical classes?

Did Cathinones such as 4-mmc (mephedrone) even make it to Japan in enough quantity to have been banned?

How about MDAI/MDPV/Methoxetamine?Methylone? Anybody even seen them about?

Any recent relevant information would be appreciated, official or anecdotal.
Sorry for all the questions, can't find any reliable info!!

P.S. Mods I know there are threads about Japan, though they seem very outdated for what is a very relevant issue, though pls move this if you think it innapropriately placed.

I dont know much about japanese drug law, but from what i could find on the internet, Japan's drug laws are similar to any other country. Often countries will have a "blanket" clause that will bassicly rule out any substance that the individual officer/s believe to be a analgue. It would be borderline impossible to create a list of every possible analogue of every drug on the market.

Australia is much the same, its often luck that determines wether or not your RC will get through customs.

As for 4-MMC (Mephadrone) I dont think it is controlled in Japan from what i can tell from sources online. Like I said before it's a grey area, often depending on a few different factors eg. Amount of substance, Officer investigation, of if it is even detected.

Japan's law isnt listed on the countries that have outlawed the substance.

I did find a paragraph on erowid that you may find helpfull

Here is info on the recent addition of psilocybin-containing mushrooms to the psychotropic drugs prohibition: www.dapc.or.jp/data/other/9.htm. On Jun 6 2002 they finally closed the loophole that had left 'magic mushrooms' legal in Japan. However, they are still available on the street, and head shops that used to carry them publicly still sell them in private, as well as carrying other recreational fungi and 'legal' substances such as peyote and new reseach chemicals.

thanks man, though that info is at least 6 years old by the looks of things!

wondered about anything more recent?
I don't fully grasp the analogue clauses - surely that would rule out things like taurine or Guarana for being stimulant based?
And i know for sure that "spice" has only very recently been banned, suggesting that cannibinoid analogues were legal at least.

hmmmm.....

^ The analogue clause does seem as if legal substances such as caffeine or alcohol would be illegal, but I believe the legislation only applies to substances that have not yet been examined and scheduled by the TGA. I imagine it is very similar in other countries as well.

Don't know about RCs- but I hear you can get nimetazepam scripted and i've heard that its the premier benzo- the high and euphoria being almost exctasy like. Don't know if its scripted to foreigners- but I do remember reading they had all kinds of RCs at smart shops or head shops or kiosks or what not- stuff like 2C-E if my memory serves me- but sorry- don't know about the current scene.
