I'm a man with degrees in Chemistry and Pharmacology, I've always smoked a bit of pot and taken my mum's Valium occasionally but I've decided to turn my degrees into a hobby: developing new, legal sedatives that can be easily/cheaply/mass-produced. So for the chemically-minded of you out there, any ideas of something I could synthesize?
I'll give y'all a clue as to my current thoughts, the first thing I'm developing is a bromo-analogue of an outdated, legal and very old-fashioned sedative called 'Chlorobutanol' (google it for answers), then I'll compare it against the original thing and see how it goes, if it's any good I'll see how it does against modern alternatives like Valium and Nitrazepam.
If you have any ideas for other modifications of chemicals that I could produce/bioassay, please coment/leave a message etc. :D

We don't allow synthesis discussion anywhere on Bluelight.

Chlorobutanol is metabolized into various chlorinated things in your liver (including chloroform, phosgene etc) and is rightfully only used as a preservative any more. Not to mention its incredibly poor PK profile (nothing like a strongly stupefying sedative lasting hours and hours with a long come up & potential for OD)

It's already known as brometone. (analogously, chlorobutanol is also known as "chloretone".) A review of its synthesis and properties is availiable in the literature.
The trichloro- and tribromo tertiary-butyl-alcohols are most interesting compounds, both chemically and pharmacologically. The trichloro-compound, “Chloretone,”‘ has pronounced hypnotic, sedative and anesthetic properties, both local and general, and the same may be said of the tribromo-compound, “Brometone,” which is considered to have more marked sedative, but less pronounced hypnotic and anesthetic properties.

I'll see how it does against modern alternatives like Valium and Nitrazepam.

It doesn't. These drugs were cutting edge in 1900. They are hepatotoxic and even something like phenobarbital was a marked improvement.
