Cotton Mather was pretty obscure even by 90s indie standards, so you can get some mighty big hipster points by name-dropping them. Good luck finding anything by them outside of Youtube, though.

It's kinda hard to believe where Modest Mouse started and where they ended up. "The Lonesome Crowded West" is such a raw album it makes all of their later stuff sound like bubblegum fluff. 7.5/10

Young Buffalo - "Catapilah"

10/10, my favorite song from the only album by him that I like. "You really should've died..."
Once called it in as a request to the local college radio show, and the silly girl actually apologized, profusely, after she played it and made it very clear she never would've played it if I hadn't talked her into it. and was embarrassed. ha ha ha. Oh well, different strokes.

Measuring Cup and Sovay are 'okay' as well, the rest are a little too saccharine even for me...
Late Wire takes some getting used to...I mean after their catchy Pink Flag album. It grew on me.

Anyhoo....onwards....I knw everyone here's the ripe old age of 21 and takes themselves oh-so seriously, ;)
but ...whatever. Maybe I'm wrong.

She's a Bad Mama Jama!

Not my thing. The beat was ok for the first minute or so but then it just got repetitive. Also, I couldn't get past Carl's "Rape Eyes".

4/10 for just the song, 1.5/10 for the song and the impending rape.

Masters of Reality - "Ants in the Kitchen"

LOL, pretty funny, ok I'll play along, even though 'playing along' to some, means I 'lose'.
Boo hoo, let's begin...

Side note: It'd be nice to hear a rating that did not include these terms:
'Not my thing', 'chill as fuck', 'repetitive', 'boring', etc.
But, whatever, like it's my threador something...lol
:)

Okay, in all honesty, the first ten seconds were awesome, catchy groove, a Beatles type intro then
trainlike chooglin bass and drums, woot woot, but it didn't seem to change much over the next 3 minutes...
except for that one pretty spiffy breakdown at 1:20, that was cool...and after a while of the (slowed down?
seemed too slow to me) drum beat ...'Ants in Kitchen ' began to seem extremely routine, prosaic and kinda
hum-drum Clapton-esque 70's rock side project.

Furthermore...the lyrics...

'Bug in my banana'? Does that really add anything to the song?

And...

'There's ants in the kitchen baby
Thought I'd let you know
There's ants in the kitchen
Thought I'd let you know

Yes, There's ants in the kitchen baby
Thought I'd let you know
There's ants in the kitchen
Thought I'd let you know'

...repeated endlessly...just seemed superfluous.
That's my word of the day: 'seemed'.

Artsy fartsy effects saved it from being a total wash for me.
The chipmunked vocals of the last 5 seconds?---> Whoa.

And, I'm sure if I googled it I'd find this was some
awesome 'supergroup' that I could name drop at many a
late night, coke on the CD case, after hours party
where the imagery of 'ants in the kitchen' took on
philosophic and symbolic signifigance
rivaled only by 'bugs' in one's 'banana'.

So let's see, my honest, not-even-mad rating, :)
5.5/10. Considering all the stuff I really do not like floating around
this was better than average. But, I wouldn't seek it out.
Thanks for sharing though. Cool stuff.

heehee that was fun!

More of my lame bullshit:
'Für Immer Punk' ~ Die Goldenen Zitronen

LOL, pretty funny, ok I'll play along, even though 'playing along' to some, means I 'lose'.

I didn't realize how seriously we were supposed to be taking this :/

hum-drum Clapton-esque 70's rock side project.

Ginger Baker is their drummer, so that's almost accurate. :)

Furthermore...the lyrics...

'Bug in my banana'? Does that really add anything to the song?

Yep - the song's about telling a girl you have an STD.

As for the song, I suppose its better than the original - so as far as Krautpunk covers of 80's pop songs go that's probably among the best. Basically it adds balls to a ball-less song and makes the lyrics incomprehensible (which, imo, is actually an improvement). I can't say it's something I'd listen to with any regularity (or ever again), but it was a refreshing take on an otherwise dull song. 7/10

First Aid Kit - "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song (Fleet Foxes Cover)"

^ Wow that cover has become quite popular it seems, I remember watching it way back when it was only at a hundred thousand views or so. Definitely 8/10

I've been listening to The Postal Service and The Books a lot the past few days
This song means a lot to me and the lyrics hit me like a ton of bricks for some reason

Ben Gibbard - Brand New Colony Acoustic

Nice ^

Been a fan of Death cab for cutie for years now. Haven't got round to checking out The Postal Service yet though but i really enjoyed that. Really liked the lyrics, especially the last verse (before "everything will change"). 8/10.

Sticking to the acoustic theme... John Butler - Ocean (live)

Instrumental though :)
