I missed my NFL this week being out of town (we watched some football, but I was too busy engaging in conversation with my closest and favorite relative to really pay attention to any games). I'll try to post a top 15 next week when I get a chance.
And yes, China Rider, my loyalty is unwavering, which is very much against my will. The Dolphins are probably the worst run franchise in the NFL currently, although Philbin appears very confident, he still has to overcome Ross: The owner who may be getting the hang of this despite being a total asshole and, frankly, a big fucking idiot for a guy who makes billions of dollars (not that I equate money with intelligence, but I imagine some intelligence and social skills are necessary to attain and maintain that kind of wealth); and Ireland, who makes our franchise look sleazier by the day and cannot draft worth a shit, yet still appears here to stay if Philbin manages to make us look a lot better than we really are.
Good case in point, for comparisons sake, is the Saints, who are struggling without their all-star coach. The Dolphins are over-performing (despite being 1-3, they were in and should have won 3/4 games if not for unlucky breaks) against better teams. They might have a decent record at the end of the year once the schedule lightens up a bit.
This Dolphins team is playing a rookie QB who really does show a lot of potential, but clearly needed a year to sit (although he seems good/resilient enough to withstand his trial by fire without being David Carred), and is fielding a team worse than any I have ever seen at the skill positions besides RB. Phins are good in the trenches at both sides, and average to decent at linebacker. Wide Receivers and Cornerbacks are probably worse than they have ever been for any team in about 20 years. Yet they look better than the loaded loaded loaded Saints who have every reason to be good. It highlights the importance of coaching in the NFL.
Even so, if I could, emotionally, bring myself to root for another team at this point, I would. But I can't, because I feel that people who turn on their hometown team have no soul. If I stick it out for another 40 years the Dolphins might compete for another Superbowl one day.
