is that the Tesco everyone hates in Bristol? remember people talking about one that nobody wanted when I was there, think it was different actually as the one everyone was protesting about never got built in the end (I think)

bottles of piss, classy haa

it's the same tescos people had squatted the building for ages to stop it getting finished but they were forced out and it was under construction when you were last down tekken.

yeah the one I remember walking past hadn't been built and there was anti-Tesco slogans on the site, probably the same one but I didn't know about the squatters

The squatters weren't there either at that time, there was a 24hr security team, it only opened last fri :D.

Looks mad, great to see some people with the balls to actually stand up for something for a change. Where I live people don't question anything, they just shuffle about in their zombie like state.

^ my local very ailing independent shop sells cheap booze too, and the profits from that booze, as they go to a local man, do far more for the local economy. the shop 100m away from that tescos on picton st does (did? haven't been since last aug!) orangeboom 90p a can.

tescos dream is that you buy your groceries, car, mortgage, insurance etc all from them, all home brand. they may offer something that looks like choice now, but in the long term they want to take choice away- offering too many different things just isn't cost effective, but obviously they have to take out their competitorsa before they do that, otherwise they'll just lose custom. their conduct towards producers is horrendous, as hinted at in my earlier post where i mentioned the suicide rate amongst farmers.

this applies to all supermarkets, not just tescos. also Spade, booze may be cheap in tescos but i save money on veg and dairy by walking an extra 10 minutes to the local market rather than getting it at morrisons whenever i have the time.

^ Exactly chinup.
They take business away from the local butchers, bakers, (candlestick makers), green grocers, fisheries etc. until they close down and there's nothing left but the supermarkets :\

I had another point but my mind's just gone "Wuh? Sorry, were you using me just then?".

I'm all for supporting the local business but when it comes to booze I want it cheap. The local shop here had to close down because Co-op opened around 6 months ago. It's a shame but the local shop had fuck all choice and they may as well not have bothered selling booze, all they had was tins of tennants, fosters, grants whisky and glens vodka. Then the usual newspapers, magazines, sweets and soft drinks plus they closed at half 4 and weren't open on weekends. Nae good to anybody.

Mon the Co-op with it's 2 for £2 Westons, being open 7 days and not closing till 10pm!

my corner shop has a few westons, about 10-15 types of cider is cheaper than co-op and open til 11 every night

Lucky you. Local corner shops around here or in Edinburgh are rarely cheaper than the supermarkets / co-op. Ahh to have the choice of 15 ciders would be ideal but the local Co-op just has White Star, Strongbow, Magners / Bulmers and Westons Vintage, i'd only drink the Westons. Just back from buying some now in fact!

Well, my heart really fuckin' bleeds, it does. :D

Fuck Tesco, Hail Eris,
Fuck Tesco, Hail Eris,
Fuck Tesco, Hail Eris,

And fuck you, and all the little bits of repress you've ever sniffed ooout of the dirtiest fiver you've ever had in your semen-drenched pocket. And may you jerk off Tery Leahy forever in some fustrated Dundonian version of hell.

Why are people so against Tecos? They do cheap booze. Everyones a winner!

10 facts about Tesco

Posted on April 22, 2011 by Adam Ramsay | No Comments

What with “Tesco Riots” taking place last night in Bristol’s Stokes Croft area, I thought I’d write some things about Tesco. These are mostly from Tescopoly

1) 1 in every 7 pounds spent in the UK in 2007 was spent in Tesco

2) Tesco use their monopoly power to squeeze farmers hard. A Competition Commission investigation revealed that Tesco consistently pay suppliers nearly 4% below the average price paid by other retailers. There isn’t much evidence they pass these savings to consumers – they just pocket the profits.

3) Research by ActionAid found workers in Costa Rica producing bananas for export to all major UK supermarkets earning 33p an hour. This wage is so low that they cannot afford to take an hour off when dangerous pesticides are being sprayed on the crops.

4) Unite the Union have a long running campaign against Tesco over the terrible treatment of workers in their meat supply chain.

5) The New Economics Foundation have shown that fresh fruit and veg is, on average, 30% cheaper at a street market than it is in a supermarket. However, through short term aggressive pricing when they first move into an area, Tesco often shuts down these markets, reducing access to fresh fruit and veg for the poorest.

6) Tesco offer their best deals in out of town shopping centres rather than their city centre stores. This not only encourages driving, but also excludes those without cars – mostly, poorer people.

7) In the 5 years to 2002, an average of 50 local food shops were lost in the UK every week, largely due to the Tesco takeover.

8) Tesco is Europe’s biggest property company. In 2007 they were sitting on property worth assets worth £28bn.

9) Tesco are not a net creator of jobs. Because they aggressively force local shops out of business, and then provide the minimal possible service to customers, on average, every time a large supermarket opens, 276 jobs are lost.

10) Between 2003 and 2007 the Labour Party accepted, donations of £54,194 from Tesco.

It's been 16 months since I left London - but at the time the local shops were all cheaper than Tesco on drink, veg and snacks. Also the all sold blackmarket ciggies for $3.

FUCK tesco.

feeling down, i was drug free for ages, then had a free house for 2 weeks (19, mum went away), and binged on alot of OC, tiny bit oh H and some other drugs. Now im back in the mindset of wanting to do drugs everyday.
