Random MSN Gibberings LIV: teh polis are watching us!

It's an individual thing. Some people don't need external stimuli as much as others.

Somebody once said "Travel narrows the mind". To an extent, that's true. But for anyone who enjoys it, go ahead and do it. That is all.

Travelling like you are Spade isn't everyone's ideal. Glad you are enjoying it though.

'Kinell Sadie - fancy teas such as cinnamon? Nah, I'm from North Manchester, pulling that shit will get you stabbed round here.

"Look o' that fookin' ponce wiv 'is lemon an dandelion tea. Lets do 'im"

I'm on a nice good old fashioned cup of PG, milk no sugar. Accompanied with a Richmond Menthol (superking) at the back door!

Asda diluting juice and a rollie here.

I think I can get away with yon fancy teas since I'm a girl. I enjoy a good normal brew but I still go for English Breakfast before I'd go for PG tips. But still, Nothing better than a nice cuppa. My favourite thing on a nice Saturday morning.

Cheers for that Spade. Glad you took the time out your wonderful travels to be a complete cunt. Well in.

:D LOL :D

Who said that and to what extent could it even remotely be true??

I'd have to look it up as to who said it first, but the basic idea is that your imagination is more exciting than reality. Which is true for most things.

An unfortunate truth, admittedly, but it's a well-known saying. Surprised you haven't heard it before.

Hey, some people don't feel the need to travel. It might seem strange to you, but everybody's different.

Nope, never heard that one.

And to be honest Sam I'm absolutely fine with people not wishing to see and experience other countries and cultures and people. I struggle to comprehend it, admittedly, but if it doesn't interest them then it doesn't interest them - everyone to their own as you say.

But it narrowing the mind?

Nah, not a chance.

Well you've completely missed my point there as regards the 'narrowing' bit, but then as you say - people are different.

An analogy: If I'm doing nothing, I have the potential to do anything. Once I do something, however, that potential is gone. There's the narrowing I speak of. I'd rather dream about the Taj Mahal gleaming in the afternoon sunshine than get up close and see the dirt on the walls.

In any case, I'm happy for you if you like travelling. I don't. My loss? Maybe.

The soul is no traveller; the wise man stays at home, and when his necessities, his duties, on any occasion call him from his house, or into foreign lands, he is at home still, and shall make men sensible by the expression of his countenance, that he goes the missionary of wisdom and virtue, and visits cities and men like a sovereign, and not like an interloper or a valet.

I have no churlish objection to the circumnavigation of the globe, for the purposes of art, of study, and benevolence, so that the man is first domesticated, or does not go abroad with the hope of finding somewhat greater than he knows. He who travels to be amused, or to get somewhat which he does not carry, travels away from himself, and grows old even in youth among old things. In Thebes, in Palmyra, his will and mind have become old and dilapidated as they. He carries ruins to ruins.

Travelling is a fool's paradise.

Well I'm always happy to take the chance that Taj Mahal might just be far more beautiful in the flesh than any image of it I could ever dream up.

I remember once being on top of Sigriya rock fortress in Sri Lanka

and believe me, no amount of lying in my bedroom in Manchester dreaming about it could have possibly compared to standing on it and drinking in the view. I know that for a fact because I did imagine it before I went. And it fell well short of the reality.

But hey man, I love non travellers as much as travellers so come here and gimme a hug.

Dunno he could be right but I just like going on holiday really mate.

Admitedly, that's beautiful. Breathtaking in fact.

If I were there, however I'd probably have a panic attack over finding the nearest offy.

Awwwww, come over 'ere then... :D

Actually Sam you'd have been alright, there was a guy with a monkey on his head selling ice cold bottles of Lion lager at the bottom.

That gaff in the picture took about 4 hours to get up and back down again so that cold beer was like manner from heaven after that!!

Right, you've sold it to me. Can't beat monkeys and a bottle of Lion, though it used to be better before they relocated the brewery. But with that kind of scenery I'd even settle for a tin of spesh!

Did the beat survey chinup. Was a bit annoyed about the lack of demographics and which media specifically I engaged with questions. That could have been a more informed piece of research.

thank you- i'll bring it up with them (i'm an ambassador for them). i think its a tradeoff by making it really quick and easy vs getting the most important info.

all this travel talk makes me yearn for faraway places, i just want to see them, i don't know why or if it would narrow/broaden my perspective. i think if i ever did it i'd have to do it the most sanitised way possible sadly, my sister and little cousin have both done big trips and loved it but are both tougher than me. the little cousin only ate what she could beg for her last 5 days in Ecuador after getting mugged. given how badly i deal with very minor problems i just don't think i'd cope.

I'd rather live in many countries than just visit. I've LOVED it so far. When the kids are grown we're off again. I quite fancy living in Croatia Maybe Poland. The man wants to live in America ( Boring )

Morning EADD and Chinup! Just had a luuuverly slice of toast with loads of butter on it and a cuppa decaf tea ( gonna go back to sleep! )

Hope everyone is well this fine and sunny morning.

haha hope you're enjoying your toast, jealous of the nap, i'm gonna try and get to the gym today, bleurgh.

living abroad is totally mint- i've lived in Cali for a year and France for a year and both were great, does take it out of you a bit though only going somewhere for such a short period. you just finish making your good friends and finding your feet then have to leave. Sadie you should work in my field- if I wanna stay in it I basically have to emigrate, bloody UK science funding.

What is it you do?

My husband has a job that allows him to move practically anywhere in the world so thats pretty cool. It'll come in handy later on in life.

How long have you got left in S.A Spade? The pics have been good, had a read of your thread earlier, seems to have improved a bit since I last read it. Sounds like you shouldn't have bothered with Brazil tbh. It was the dullest part bar the headbutt :D

i'm sorry, but that is such a crock of shit. it sounds like a justification for not doing anything. fair enough if you don't have money or some other reason for not being able to do it, but there's no way on earth imagining things could ever stand up to reality. so what if the Taj Mahal has dirt on the walls?

we can all "imagine" things like the Eiffel Tower or the Empire State Building, safe in our wee bedrooms, but i can assure you that the reality blows it away. would you rather think about the Grand Canyon, or actually be there?

To be honest, I don't give a fuck about the Grand Canyon.

That might seem strange to you but as was pointed out earlier, everybody's different. And I was making a point about transcendentalism, rather than me sitting in my wee room imagining the Eiffel tower... which I don't.

Sorry if my lack of desire to travel upsets you, but it's the way I feel. :\

i do get your point (didn't mean to cause offence by the way!), but it just seems somewhat alien to me. our imaginations are pretty amazing, but so is reality.

as long as we don't meet our heroes. they're probably nowhere near as exciting or interesting as we are led to believe.
