Opioids quitting methadone, will a day of heroin use mess up my tolerance?

Hi there,

I'm in the final stages of quitting MMT, after 4 years from a max dose of 120mg down to just 1mg nowadays. I'm experiencing the whole palette of withdrawal symptoms. I know this too shall pass, but it will take many weeks until I'm fully fine. What I'd like to know is if I can take a break from withdrawals for a day or two on low dose heroin. Would this little vacation add to the severity of the withdrawals is my question? I'm not about to go into a full relapse, I don't want to take junk every day, I very firmly do not. I would just like a break from the relentlessness of methadone withdrawals. Any advice welcome....

I don't think it would mess it up too bad if you just did it once. I did it when I got off the methadone last time (I was on 150 mg.) and I felt the same withdrawals I normally did the next day. They weren't any worse. Stick it out if you can though, you're SO close. I'm back on 125 mg. now and I would kill to be in your spot.

You will feel a little worse. The longer you use the more you'll feel after you go back to your reduced maintenance dose of methadone. Ime the even is a difference between two days and just one day. I understand what you mean about taking a break from the WDS. Things like methadone and benzos have really long and tedious WDs.
