So, quitting heroin. I have a handful of vicodin and a a couple hundred milligrams of methadone. My question is, would it be best to start with the vicodin, or go with the methadone first and then use the vicodin? I'm just looking for the smoothest transition to sobriety as possible. I tried cold turkey a while ago, and with school and other obligations just couldn't do it, so tried to get a little bit of pharmaceutical assistance and hopefully this will work. If anyone can help I plan on starting whatever regiment tomorrow so any advice would be much appreciated.

Start the methadone, and keep the vicodin for when its absolutely impossible to sleep/sit still, or to keep vomiting at bay. And even then, halve them so that you use only enough to help get comfortable.

Most importantly, get rid of any vicodin or whatever as soon as you can, and stick to the methadone.... your detox will be a lot easier if its just one opiate your body is dealing with.

Yep start with the methadone as it has a longer half life and will get you past the worst more effectively. But moreso you don't want your body becoming on the methadone as your last opiate, because wds will be extended.

However I have a little "trick" to mention which I have seen work and its really simple but somewhat brilliant how it works. I've only seen 2 people do it but one of them said it worked so well they didn't have any physical wds at all, just went straight to paws.

What you do is use the methadone first, but save just ***1 dose***. Then use the vics like ixch said as sparingly as possible. If your body becomes dependent on the vics, and you stop them as your last dose, then take just **1 dose** of methadone, the methadone will take the short acting opiate wds, and extend them over the course of many days. So you're not getting long acting opiate wds that are extended, you are getting short acting opiate wds from the vic that are extended. This will immediately cut down the intensity of wds, prolonging them yes, but just do it and you'll see why it works so well.

Its helps you land the plane a bit smoother at the end. However, if you take all the methadone at the end, you're just going to have a delayed methadone wd which will suck. Using the vics and saving that 1 dose of meth for the end will help you a lot more then just stopping the vics.

So like I said methadone first, then vics, then as your final jump off dose one final dose of methadone.
The intensity of your wds however are still going to be 100% dependent on your habit, and how fast you tapered etc. But no matter how you look at it, taking that last dose of meth at the end is a really smart way to go.

And just to reiterate I know someone who was coming off a pod habit a couple months back, didn't even taper, took **1** sub dose as their final dose of opiates, and the guy told me he didn't have 1 single physical wd coming off. But in terms of paws thats something you can't really trick your brain out of experiencing, just part of the whole experience of getting back to "normal".

And most importantly when you do finally come off your brain is going to try convincing you of all sorts of shit. Like "my life sucks", "I'm broken and hopeless", "I'm a depressed person this sucks etc etc". Its very important to always keep in mind that after stopping opiates that is NOT how you will feel as a "normal" person. And it in no way indicates how you will feel 6 months from them. So even if your anxious 3 months after quitting, thats NOT YOU. Its the opiates trying to convince you its you so you can assume you're broken and start using again.

Definitely not easy by any means, so like I said good luck!

That seems complicated, but also like it would work really well. I've not had to go through that, but I can't fault your reasoning.

I did the same thing Bojangles suggested myself a couple years ago with a dose of suboxone and it works for sure. I've detoxed every which way and this is a good one. PAWS got me in the end that time but the physical side of things was very manageable. Oxy was my DOC then...about 160 a day. Good luck!
