i'm going to make a sincere effort to quit smoking cigarettes tomorrow, a habit which has made me lose weight, lose my appetite, given my chronic indigestion, fucked up my breath, fucked up my lungs, and just generally made me a physical and mental wreck. at the same time, however, i have quit and relapsed more times than i can remember, and it always hinged on the fact that i could never find anything to substitute for cigarettes. something about the ten-minute break from the world, something about the act of smoking, something about the taste... there's just something about the act of smoking a cigarette that is just straight-up divine and i haven't been able to find anything that compares to it (although a good bifta can come close). for those of you that have quit smoking cigarettes, what did you end up doing that took your mind off of smokes and served as a good substitute?

cmon half of you are junkies or cokeheads, dont tell me theres not a single SMOKER here who wouldnt like to share his suggestions... cmon!

Everybody I know who smokes and have stopped doing drugs have all told me it was easier to stop the drugs than quit the cig's - I guess that is why they are still smoking, sorry.
But personally I don't belive in "lowering" your amount of cigs and then stopping. Pick a good day and stop completly from that day.

Taper if you can... if you smoke a lot, this may take sometime...
Use the patches and gum ..
Carry a candy cigarette so "puff" on... a big part of the oral-fixiation..
Try to avoid the smoking areas, or hanging out in places where people smoke..
Wellbutrin (sold as "Zyban" for anti-smoking) will do wonders for the cravings..
More then anything else - it comes downto WILLPOWER... you haveto bewilling to give it up, and no, it's not easy... keep trying, andeventually you will either succeed for die!

I've been wanting to quit for a long time too, but the problem is that when I roll or get tweaked out, I smoke like a madman. Cigarettes and getting f*cked up go hand and hand. THe only way that I know taht I would be able to quit is if I quit drugs too.
I just don't see that happening anytime soon.
