Opioids (Quick Question) Is it safe to top up ?

I usually play it safe with opiates and take 10 mg Oxycodone every 3- 4 hours for chronic pain but today's dose felt a bit weak (perhaps tolerance building up) and I am just wondering do I have to wait 3- 4 hours before I can dose up because the dose I just took an hour ago dosent feel like its doing much, or can I just take a little extra on top right now to make up for the weak dose ? Perhaps like an extra 3 mg on top of the 10 I took earlier ?

Yes you can dose right now. 3mgs is a pretty small amount, and as long as you know the total dosage would be safe there is no reason to space out the doses.

The more time between doses will keep your tolerance down, if you need to start upping let you doctor know, maybe he'll just want to up you to 15mg Roxi if not just tell you to take another half since they're usually scored. Not sure how you're measuring 3mg though.

you're at such a low dose that an additional 3mg's shouldn't be troublesome, that is unless you weigh about 65LBs.

^^ You can either crush up the pill and split it into however many equal piles will equal your dose really accurately, you can break off an approximate 3mg chunk which wouldn't be *too* small since it's only a 10mg pill to begin with, or you can get technical and exact, and use a scale to weigh the pill, take the ratio of pill weight to mg's of oxycodone and weigh out exactly a 3mg chunk.

I used to use the dilution/syringe method to measure out my suboxone doses, but I really need to get on the above. Given access to great scales, why not? And the math involved is easy and fun? It's just like sudoku. but not, because I loath sudoku...

Sorry I should have mentioned I am on Oral Liquid Oxycodone Hydrochloride which allows me to measure any amount I need.

The reason I was given liquid Oxycodone is because I have an opiate sensitivity and it I went through a desensitization program where I started off only on 1mg and in the 3 years I have worked my way up to a dose which I can tolerate so it is important for me to not to over do it which is why I was cautious enough to ask for help here.

I wish I had your problem lol. I hope I don't offend you or anything, I'd just kill to be extra sensitive to opiates, I can see now all the money I'd save.

To answer your question though, you should be fine to add another 3mg now instead of waiting until your next dose to add it. Just make sure to note how it makes you feel compared to how your normal dose of 10mg makes you feel. This way you can mention to your doctor that 10mg doesn't seem to working anymore and have a better idea of how to convey this to your Dr. Although, to mention that you took more than the prescribed to your Dr. may not be the best thing, as your Dr. may feel that this could lead to you abusing your meds.

Defo try keep time between dosing down as that is one of the main reasons for tollarence build up and damm it can build up real quick and come out of nowhere. doing extra 3mg will be safe as quite small amount to top up. most people double there dose but soon find need to do that all time, much better to stick to way your doing it if that is working for you. do what works for you not other people.
