quick question about glass on glass slide ( any stemline owners?)

i just got my new bong in the mail today and i am curious (have severe ocd) that if taking your slide in and out after so many months or year, would the friction of your slide rubbing shortly on inside of the downstem cause glass to wear off?

i imagine in my head that when i put the slide in my bong ( stem line) that the above mentioned friction will result in very small pieces of glass that will run through the very small holes of the grided stemline.

i know its a bizarre thing to ponder but maybe someone else with a sov stemline could give me some insight of there time with it.

is microscopic glass from that friction really coming off or does the glass remain the exact same 100% solid with zero differences? i did terrible in science in highschool if not obvious.

oh last thing, i was taking out the slide in and out and a few times and noticed i was applying some pressure on inside of the stemline insert with my slide, could this slight pressure lead to glass coming off my pieces,

or is this not how glass and science works? i appriciaate all help with my wacky question.

Nah, I don't think that's an issue you have to worry about. It's usually not that tight, and the bowl piece and downstem will have a relatively smooth texture of glass. You're more likely to just pull along your downstem with the bowl if it's sticking, rather than breaking any of the glass or scraping off any shards. Even with a cheap glass on glass piece, I still don't think this is something you'd have to worry about.

On the other hand, if this did happen (highly unlikely) the shards would go into your bong water. Unless you're smoking out of it dry, the tiny pieces of glass would be stuck in the water rather than inhaled into your lungs, so you wouldn't have anything to worry about.

yeah now i am just concerned about that slight pressure i caused a few times taking my slide in and out.

and i wouldnt stress about it like you said since it would sit in the water, but this piece i have has about an inch and a half room between the bottom of my stemless and the start of the stemline. it seems like if that glass did get in there,
the glass would still get sucked through the percs.

appreciate dealing with my ocd madness, more insight is welcomed.
 
Don't worry about it. If you have bought some quality glass, the female and male joints will fit perfectly one into each other. Of course you might feel some friction, but it's not going to degrade your glass.

its is top end brand thank you and you think i didnt wear away at the glass when applying tad bit of pressure on the female joint with my slide in one direction. I didnt hear or see anything break but the very fact i gave a bit of pressure on the female joint with the slide has the ocd ticking like a bitch .
 
As long as your smoking from glass and not any acrylic crap id be sure its pretty safe and 'professional'

Always have stuff my way, no home made bongs for me or nout lol
 
I would be careful about taking the bowl in and out at the right angle, but I wouldn't worry about any small pieces of glass breaking off. Your bong is made it to that, that's a major function of the glass.

My buddy used to have a PHX that had a stemline, and another drunk friend pulled the bowl out at an angle pretty hard and broke about an inch off the stem. No buying a new downstem and replacing that, if you break it you're buying a whole new bong (unless you have connections to glassblowers or something) I'd make sure to let everyone who hits your bong know that and to be extra careful.

#1 rule for glass owners: do not let drunk people touch your glass at all.
