Ok so I found this site a couple months back and have been using it as a bit of a resource. First off, this place has an awesome idea! I've always said that the reason so many amateur users are ODing/ dying or being injured from recreational drug interactions/ pretty much making rookie mistakes in the world of recreational drugs is mostly because nobody has any dialogue about the subject. It's always just "drugs are bad, don't do drugs, etc." Anyway, I've been checking in here pretty regularly just to see what the proverbial "they" are saying about one subject or another. I decided to join because Alpha) I thought I could help answer some questions of other people I've seen, and Bravo) had a couple specific queries/ fact-checking (or more properly, opinion-checking) things that I wanted to toss out there.....
So first off; it kind of threw me when I read your user agreement thing. The website specifically says 'don't use guilt-deferral terms like swim' when talking about advice that clearly does not come from the perfect, law abiding, white-collar people who post on this site. Yet, according to every post I've read, apparently somebody whose parents can't tell the difference between a proper noun and a verb does copious amounts of illegal substances all the time, yet none of that stuff is getting deleted. This user agreement must be solely for the sake of the lawyers? Just wondering because I obviously write novels any time I touch a keyboard, and I don't want my hard work getting deleted. Makes sense, right?
Second, and really, most importantly; The site has this thing you agree to when you sign up that says they'll give user info to law enforcement (NOOOOOOO!!! I mean, 'YAY! I love the law reading about what I might or might not do in my own house') and that they reserve the right to release anything I post to the MEDIA. Media? That one really got me. What, I'm gonna hit 50, get nominated for president and then all this talk about one of my buddies who doesn't do any drugs ever is gonna be in the New York Times?! Every word of that scenario is of course the deepest of pipe dreams, but I wanted to bring it up, and the mods said i should post in the new members thing so here you go.
Like, literally two paragraphs ago I was applauding you guys here at BL, totally excited to be a part of this dialogue, super relieved to have this resource (the unqualified opinions of the world's drug users = resource, apparently) and then I go to get involved and mean little Billy Bluelight from down the road steals my lunch money and says if he decides he doesn't like me he's gonna run and tell my mommy about all the terrible s**t I'm doing? That can't be what's up, right? Like I know a company has to protect itself with a bunch of fine print in case someone posts a recipe for meth or some crap and some kid in Nebraska (sorry, Nebraska, but you know you're in the target demographic) blows up his mom's house and everything, but please, somebody who has a name tell me what's up. That can not be how an impartial dialogue on responsible drug use is, it just can't....
Anyway thanks in advance. I'm excited to be a part of this thing, just had the two (pretty darned legitimate) gripes to address...
---P.S. Should I or should I not be speaking in the third person?
