Greetings everyone, I'll try to keep this short and to the point. SWIM asks, hypothetically, for a friend in aims of harm reduction knowledge:

I have tried to do my maximal due diligence with researching the subject but based on different reagent suppliers and the information they provide regarding certain reagents and what "mediums" they are capable of testing, I have only reach inconclusive results with which direction I should take for the reagent testing I am needing to do.

That inconclusiveness being around the ability to use Elrich's and Hoffman's for testing gel tabs (or others if it is suggested here as superior to those for this "medium")

I have had certain reputable suppliers of Elrich's and / or Hoffman's claim that it WILL work on gel tabs, though it will take a longer period of time to show a reaction - while I have also had other suppliers state that gel tabs would not or even COULD NOT be tested using Elrich's.

To be clear, I mean Elrich's and Hoffman's "spot testing" with a single drop of reagent on a pure white ceramic surface.

My main question is whether either of these are capable of testing for Indoles within gel tabs or not?
Beyond that, if they can, would that still render Elrich's and Hoffman's the superior methods for testing Indoles?

---

If I had to go into finer questions on the subject, I would say my main concern is identifying product as it is expected to be (Indoles). Basically ruling out the fact that they're some RC, not that I'm afraid of RCs, but I would then want to investigate into even more reagent testing to find out what is actually in them. On a base level, we just want to identify Indoles within the context of gel tabs.

If in fact Indoles, perhaps I would invite additional information about some of the more advanced testing that can discern the uq concentration of a single tab. This definitely interests me, but it isn't something I require either. If anyone has information on any reagent which will identify Indole content via uq measurements WITHIN the context of testing gel tabs - that would be greatly appreciated too.

Thanks in advance. Looking forward to the feedback and learning. :)
