I'm back!
For those who are new over the past 3 years to BL... I'm a pharmacist/MD who obviously is pro-harm reduction.

For those with queries for me (preferably publicly in this thread), ask away. PM me only if you must as I would rather be on the record, so to speak, to help with common problems etc.

Ask away BL!

OTHER DRUGS MODERATOR NOTE:

For those of you who do not know, djsim is a certified M.D. / healthcare professional -Wiggi, tricomb

Hey, great to have you around! Okay I'm a IV heroin user, I was wondering what the common health problems would befor an addict. For example shot immune system or low blood pressure when in withdrawal. Basically I want to know how to separate common problems an addict will have from other health problems..

What are the health risks of injecting benzyl alcohol? What would be considered a safe daily dosageA?

Do doctors ever prepare their own sterile ampoules/ solutions for injection (from scratch) if so what procedure do they follow? Do you have any references/books on the subject?

Not sure if this is area of an MD but..

When can we except to be able to medically manipulate the reward circuit somehow? Like curing psychological addiction to different substances using medicines. Is this just a fantasy at this point?

what area of medicine do/did you specialize in?

What is your opinion on Olneys lesions in humans?

A likely effect of disociative abuse?

Possible but unlikely?

Doesn't happen.

Something else? (please describe)

Thanks

you've set yourself up here, dj;)

What the fk do you expect other than questions when you ask "I'm a doc/ pharmacist ask away." bit shitty when you don't come back to answer. :/

Isn't this a tad unethical?

Not saying I don't think you should do it, I do. I think it could be an incredibly useful resource. I'm just wondering if you've considered all of the ethical and moral implications of such a thread.

What happens if, for example, you give wrong advice and someone ends up dead? A bit of hyperbole but not outside the realm of possibilities considering what takes place here on BL.

I don't think the OP meant this for for a personal resource for anyone but to discuss HR and other stuff in general with someone who is more qualified than an average John Doe without any medical background.

Haha, yeah not sure you know what you got yourself into here, man... Or maybe you do. Ha.

Anyway, naturally... BL'ers, despite djsim's qualifications (which I know to be true), please still don't rely on any one persons advice solely and treat it as gospel.. That goes for anybody.

He's not here to answer questions about your actual psychical conditions like missed shots and shit that he can't diagnose unless he was able to see you first hand.

I don't see how this is unethical at all. He's just giving harm reduction advise. People are going to use drugs either way so they might as well be informed about how to be as safe as possible about it.

Plus, I think if there was a chance that someone had a medical problem that was serious enough they could die from it, djsim would advise they go to the hospital. The internet is not the place for medical emergencies as I'm sure he's well aware. This is just about informing people.

Well if DJ doesn't want to answer, there is a certain well known bluelighter who has been posing as a MD for several years now, I'm sure he would be happy to answer these questions in order to perpetuate the Charade.

doctors/hospitals/nurses etc. are responsible for accidental deaths every day. despite what people seem to think, doctors DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING. Doctors are practicing medicine their entire careers - that is why they open businesses called "practices," not "I'm completely positive what's wrong with everybody, INC."
A doctor's job is to gather symptoms from a patient from the things a patient tells them (which often times are skewed because of many different reasons, people being shy, embarassed, drug use, stubbornness, etc) and the physical/organic symptoms that the doctor can see and or test.

Being that this doctor can't see you (the forum question-asker), it takes away half of his ability to be able to accurately assess the situation at hand. However, he/she can give you the best answer from the information they've been given.

WHICH MEANS: even though this person is a doctor, people who are asking questions here should be wise enough to take the answers with a grain of salt (and a shot of tequila......just kiddin'). There are reasons that people in real life go to see different doctors to get second opinions.

It is the question-askers choice to choose to follow the advice given by the doctor (djsim, I mean absolutely no offense by any of this; I have seen your posts and can see that it is likely you are quite intelligent, therefore I assume you'd agree with what I am saying here...)

also, to those bitching that their question hasn't been answered right away...pretty sure this person has better things to do than sit like a pouncing cat on his keyboard just waiting and salivating to answer every single one of your questions. you should be lucky that someone is offering to answer, weather it be 2 hours or 2 weeks later.

overall, if you think you truly have an emergency health situation in your hands, GO TO THE REAL LIFE DOCTOR.

^word!

This has happened. It's really difficult though since some treat BL as if it were an emergency service for addicts.

OK everyone, I'm back from my short break (I go to Fiji for a break inbetween golfing holidays, like all Drs :P)
I'll get around to replying to this thread ASAP (ie today). Please strip down to your undergarments and wait in the examination room while I'm getting prepped. In the meanwhile, enjoy a copy of Time magazine assessing Reagenomics and Contra from our stack of 1980s periodicals.
