Hi, first time poster here. I've been trying to answer my question with the Google, to no avail. So here I am.
Background: I've been using Vicodin for about 2 years now. It was for chronic pain at first, but now not so much. My dose right now is 10 mg, preceded an hour before by 600 mg of Tagamet, 30 mg of DXM hbr (Tussin capsules), and some grapefruit juice.
Problem is this dosage isn't doing it for me. My last two doses were spaced out 2 weeks apart, and although I got a little warmth, that was it. There may have been some cross-tolerance build-up though, because I was also taking codeine (Tylenol 3) for legit reasons (messed up sacroiliac joint). For what it's worth the codeine actually gave me a buzz - moreso than the 10 mg of Vicodin these past two times - so I'm thinking that might have messed up my system.
Question 1: I'm going to wait three weeks before my next dose to hopefully reduce my tolerance. Would taking daily amounts of DXM for a week leading up to that day be helpful? As in, could taking DXM help lower my Vicodin tolerance while I'm abstaining from the Vicodin itself? Or is DXM only useful when taken in conjunction with Vicodin, and otherwise useless?
Question 2: Because I was affected by the codeine from the Tylenol 3's, would that have caused cross-tolerance? I know Vicodin (hydrocodone) works differently than codeine, but are they similar enough that one can boost the tolerance to the other?
Thanks for any help.
