Benzos Question..

that's a completely valid point. in fact, some doctors will prescribe things like methylphenidate or recommend using caffeine to counteract some of the sedating effects of benzos, but unless you're talking about mountains of caffeine, i don't think it should have any real effect on the anxiolitic properties of klonopin.
to the OP, if you feel like it's making it work less in your case though, i'd recommend just avoiding it.

This is definitely not true necessarily...no offense of course.

It sounds to me that you may be not very sensitive to the effects of caffeine and that may be where your statement above came from. But in fact, MANY people are extremely effected by caffeine....like my father for example, if he drinks ANY caffeine anytime after 10 a.m. he WILL NOT be able to sleep that night. There are thousands and thousands of peopl who are sensitive enough to caffeine for it to cause a change in the way there klonopin medication is effecting them.

I havent bothered to say this until now but....im prescribed about 2mg's of klonopin a day and caffeine DEFINITELY changes the way the klonopin effects me. Basically, it doesnt work as well....because the caffeine causes my heart rate to increase, which makes me nervous instead of calm, etc...
of course I choose not drink caffene very much(I prefer juice) but when I do, it most definitely changes the effects of my medication.

All good points and they all pretty much relate to me too.

I think I'm pretty caffeine sensitive, but the only reason I really drink it is b/c it's the only thing that really gives me any energy. I always feel hungover the next day from the kpin I take in the evening (I only take a little bit of kpin during the day if my anxiety is just through the roof).

I can tell when I have coffee though my heartbeat gets fast and erratic, anxiety gets worse, and so on. I think I'm just going to have to drink decaf from now on and figure out another way to generate some energy during the day.

It might not chemically effect the way the klonopin works if you want to get technical, but I definitely feel the caffeine somehow limits what I get out of the klonopin, even if I drink coffee at a different time of the day from when I take kpin. I guess avoiding caffeine is the only way outta this one.

So it actually does counteract it huh, damn. I figured something was going on with that mix. Is decaf completely caffeine-free? Because I've heard even decaf still has some caffeine in it.

I know this sounds like a coffee thread now, but I'm really asking that b/c of how it would relate to effecting the klonopin.

well, i don't know if that study necessarily proves that or actually translates to humans, but it certainly lends credence to the idea that there could be more of a direct chemical reaction rather than just a perceived one as i had originally posted. there is another study i've read before that says caffeine does not interact w/ clonazepam, but i can't remember if it was talking specifically about the anxiolitic effects or anti-seizure or what- i'll try to find it at some point for the general knowledge of the board.

as far as decaf goes, i seriously do not believe whatever negligible amounts of caffeine remain would have any effect except on the extremely hypersensitive, but you might as well try it out and see for yourself.
