I am almost finished with my taper from 120-160 mg a day of oxy. I have been exercising and eating healthy all during the taper. My question is how long should I wait before I attempt to quit smoking cigarettes? I have heard to wait after kicking for a couple months to kick something else. I generally just want to live a healthier lifestyle.

I say quit whenever you feel you're ready. we cannot really give you an answer on this.

you could start off by wearing patches. I spend a lot of time in the hospital and they give me patches and I've never once had a cig craving while wearing one, but then again I've always been in the hospital where I don't have people smoking around me, nor do I even SEE a cig. but its nicotine, so you're not gonna get any physical cravings. you're also not smoking it, so its healthier in that regard. I would at least switch to the patch like now, that'll make it easier to stop putting a patch on one day down the road because you will already be over the whole "having something in your hand/mouth" cravings.

well theres a very high chance... statisticly of relapsing in the first 2 months after you quit opies... once the 2 months pass it gets less and less likely to relapse... so don't give yourself an oxy "treat" for at least 6 months... and if you can leave it all behind for good... DO SO...

great johnny im rite with ya on this also.......i want to quit live healthy all that good shit lol.anyway i would say give it some time also gage it onhow you feel physically youll know when its a good time cool? best of luck to ya.

i started smoking cigs about 2 years ago when my friends and i got real bad into coke
no weed to smoke while coming down, so i grab a cig and well the rest is obvious

i heard the best time/way to quit is when u go to bed & wake up the next day, dont grab a morning cig and dont even think about them, ive done this a few times and made it 2 days withouth smoking but the absence of weed brings me right back

my uncle has one of those electric cigs, that could help with the feeling of "needing to inhale a cloud of smoke"

Dont use the patch unless you smoke like a pack a day. Seriously they release alot of nicotine into your system and if you smoke half a pack or less a patch will just shoot your tolerance/ frequency of smoking way up.

wow, thanks for that tidbit of info.. i usually smoke about 5-6 cigs a day and i was considering the patch but that would only cause more problems.

will cigar paper help? i mean like if i stopped smoking cigs and relied soley on the blunt paper i use when i get high will it make me crave a cig more or just kind of subdue the cravings (i smoked blunts daily before i smoked cigs and i think the cigar paper attributes to the nicotine craving)

they make patches in different milligrams. they come in 21, 14, and 7mg strengths. in the hospital, I told them I smoked about a 1/3 pack a day and they started me on the 14mg, and then about a week later I asked to go to the next one, which was 7.

with 5-6 cigs a day, the 7mg patch will work just fine, and not make your tolerance any higher. but do not wear them when sleeping! gives you very vivid nightmares.

just focus on one thing at a time......quit the oxy and give yourself some time, then think about trying to quit smoking.

yes, I wouldn't do both at the same time. you're gonna need them cigs to calm you down a bit when going through opiate withdrawals. I was simply just letting you know that patches are still a very good idea when choosing to quit smoking.

i agree, start with the worse habit..ween yourself off of OC (may need to find some subs or domes) (cigs increase the opiate feeling anyways) so having those around may help.. but after quitting opiates cigs should be a cake walk
