Misc Question: How Addicts Are Prescribed Meds

wish i would have seen your post before i posted Captain haha

it's OK. :)

I think an important point to keep in mind is also that if you know the doctor will be less willing than normal to prescribe a medication you need, and you do need it for a legitimate reason, then bring in a parent who is willing to hold onto your medication and dull it out responsibly.

Family can be a really important part of your recovery for this reason.

Some people are able to hang onto their own meds the whole time, other people may give their meds over to an entrusted family member only some times, etc. - there is no shame in needing help with this.

If you actually are suffering without the medication, and your parents can see this out of you, they should be willing to help you get it from the doctor.

If they can tell you are actually just scheming to get "a high", then they will also likely be able to tell this and won't help you get it.

Keep in mind if you have a parent hang onto the meds for you and you break this trust by busting into something of theirs to get at it, you'll likely lose the trust to keep up this relationship.

Choose wisely, but know yourself well enough to try to know the likely outcome of the situation.

I am currently thinking of this option because since being on the suboxone i have just been sitting at home and dont have the motivation to do anything and i really wanna start working again which my dad offered me a job which is out of town so i would be away from the town where i can score from i just feel with only suboxone i wont be a productive worker and in turn will reflect badly on my father which i dont wanna do as it is gonna be a 50-60 hour a week job.........which the entire second part of my using i worked the whole time full time at a job which was another reason i went back to using i think because i just suck at being productive without something to medicate my ADHD so i just dont know what to do at this point

I am hoping once i get used to the suboxone it will help with my adhd but i am not sure

I can attest to the fact that psychostimulants such as dextro-amphetamine and Adderall help prevent relapse in people that suffer from Adult ADHD with comorbid substance abuse disorders (opioid addiction, etc.)

Since a lot of addictive behaviors are fed off of impulse/impulsivity, those with ADHD are obviously more likely to become addicted to substances and this has been proven throughout medical literature (over 50% of adults with ADHD have/have had comorbid substance abuse disorders.) Treating with psychostimulants like Dexedrine and/or Adderall can be helpful to prevent these impulsive traits in those with ADHD, thereby reducing relapse and other issues that come with addiction.

Psychostimulants have been proven in medical literature to lower substance abuse rates amongst ADHD children later in life compared to those children with ADHD who were unmedicated.

I am just nervous to get back on a stimulant because yes they worked when i was on them at the beginning but after awhile the negative side effects such as not sleeping, eating, depression, outweighed the positive side effects and of course oxy helped all that plus let me focus and relax and what not......idk what suboxone and stimulant would be like however

What stimulant were you taking? You either were taking too high of a dose of the stimulant or were abusing it if you couldn't sleep, eat, etc. on them.

After a week or two on a proper therapeudic dose of Dexedrine or Adderall, most side-effects such as the anorectic effect and insomnia issues should die down (unless your dose is too high.)

i wasnt abusing it man and i just read another thread about amphetamines and i suggest you go read it right now cause it will explain exactly what happened to me i can believe how much it explained it..........i was on amp-salts 20mg in the morning 20 at lunch until it was so bad i just wouldnt take it then i tried vyvanse was better but inevitably was the exact same after a few months...def go read about that tho man crazy

Have you tried vyvanse? Apparently a lot of people report positive results. I haven't personally tried it though.

Some people don't respond well to Adderall, specifically because the two racemic salts in it are likely to blame.

I do agree that the wording "of dexedrine or adderall", implying that one works better for some.

Not to derail, but speaking of vyvanse my girlfriends cousin is prescribed 70mgs for "anxiety"...???

How can this be healthy? He's like a sophomore in high school, been on it for a long time. He's tiny, like he's 16 and they always ask if he wants a kids menu with crayons at restaurants. not sure if the vyvanse is responsible but could be a factor.

16 year olds aren't supposed to be fully grown yet, you grow into your 20's.

Some people develop slower than others.

If his parents were concerned with his growth, they'd take him to a doctor - if this hasn't happened then it's probably just to be expected for a son from his family. Or he might have neglectful parents?

D-amp could be given for anxiety, especially since anxiety is one of the most common things that people with ADHD complain about as a child. Some parents might not want to "label" a child with that disorder because it has such a negative connotation to some people.

Doesn't sound like it is going to be long before a relapse man. If you are that much of a drug addict, remember the serenity prayer, because it won't matter if you are taking heroin, adderall, dxm or bath salts (whatever the hell those are), you are going to go completely overboard, it is just a matter of time. Be honest with yourself, it sounds to me like you are still in denial, so work on that first step. Myself, I was a horrible alcoholic and yack head, and loved every other kind of drug. When I quit drinking though, I was able to control everything, until oxy came into my life. Kicked that out for about 6 months and I am feeling so much better, might be the same for you. I would give yourself more time clean/sober before you go jumping on any schedule 2 substances though, imo.
**Edit: I'm not a 12 stepper by any means, I just woke up and quit drinking one morning over three years ago, but I know that it works for some people.

Dexedrine is shit, if I take one of them, I am going to end up snorting my whole stash and finally crashing days later after tweaking out and making the most irresponsible and reckless stock and options trades for days on end. Adderall and the l-amps at least remind you that you have a body and that you are wearing it out. Dexedrine is focus, but not so much motivation, and you have no idea where that focus is headed.

Yeah i already mentioned that when vyvanse came out i got switched because it was supposed to take the negative side effects that i didnt like about the salts away which it did very well but after three months it was back to the same and my insurance wouldnt pay after the three month trial period was up so i just stopped all together

in my experience strattera is one wonky chemical, made me real emotional, gave me first wet dream at age 28, i would bust a nut and not even feel it,

the only positive thing i experienced with it was im not a morning person and when i took that pill at night i would be awake before the sun came up like clockwork

concerta and ritalin both worked adderall i kinda abused

theres one more i tried i forget the name but i think its related to ritalin, that worked but gave me panic attacks, vertigo and moments of depersonalization
