Harm Reduction Question about weird reaction after shooting up H

So the other night swim was going to shoot up about .3 of black tar, tried hitting hand, hit the vein, pulled back blood & then a bubble so assuming the needle pulled out of the vein swim decided to try hitting their arm, stuck the needle in, pulled back blood so shot the whole shot. Had no pain or anything while injecting but immediely after shooting the whole shot swims hand (the same hand that was poked a few minues before) went numb, tingly, and started burning worse then swims ever felt. Then the hand started to swell, it swelled up about 2x the normal size. Its still a little swollen after 2 days. Basically it felt like a miss but swim KNOWS they didnt miss, especially not in their hand. I was wondering why that could of happened.. Was thinking maybe the hole from poking the vein in the hand hadnt closed so when swim shot up in the arm the heroin traveled thru the arm into the hand and leaked out the hole, thus causing a miss in the hand.. but there was about a 7 minute lapse in time from the time their hand was poked to when swim shot up in their arm.. & another weird thing is swim got a severe migrane about 5 mins after doing the shot.. Dont want this to happen again. ANY FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED:) thanks.

It sounds like an arterial shot. You should go see a doctor to inspect the hand as blocked blood vessel and that level of swelling could have caused tissue death which can require amputation.

Veins (blue and close to the skin) travel with low pressure returning blood towards the heart and are what you need to inject into to ensure your drug has lots of time to dissolve in your blood. Arteries (which it sounds like you hit) travel away from the heart directly into tiny blood vessels (only one cell wide) called capillaries. Hitting an artery doesn't give the drug enough time to dissolve and it clogs your capillaries causing huge swelling and lack of blood supply to tissue. If this tissue dies (becomes necrotic) it can't be saved.

tl/dr go to doctor immediatly and read this before shooting again.

Good lcuk.

I thought thats what it coulda been at first too but i hit the same vein as always.... I kno its not an artery cuz its one of 4 veins i always hit ad nothing like this has ever happened and ive been doing this for years off and on.. so idk. I dont have insurence so I dont wanna go to the Dr unless im absolutely sure its something that requires medical attention.. the hands fine now, no pain or bruising, just a little left over swelling. and where I hit in the arm is totally fine never had any pain or tingling or swelling there.

Did you think you didn't need medical attention when your hand was twice the size as normal, in indescribable pain, and you thought it was an arterial shot?

Anyways you can't be totally sure what it was and we can't either - especially not if it is getting better on it's own or not. If you are willing to think the odds of you not needing medical attention outweigh the costs of a doctors visit then it's your hand = your call.

if i had hit a new vein that i had never hit before and this happened then i would of definitely gone to the er.but the fact that it was the same vein that i usually hit made me pretty sure it wasnt an artery..Ive hit the same vein since then & its been fine.. If its still swollen tomorrow i'll probably go in & get it checked out .. I was just trying to get a few other peoples opinions before doing that. another reason im kinda putting off the dr thing is I dont want to be labeled an addict in my medical records Im getting a few different narcotic perscriptions a month and i dont want to lose those

Hi, welcome to BDD! Please don't use swim on BL, it doesn't protect you, everyone knows it is you :)

You could have hit a nerve or an artery, there are some that lie fairly close to the main crook veins people use (only deeper) or had a missed shot that has irritated the nerve - it is impossible for us to say over the internet. Please get it checked out by a doctor, you don't want to risk serious complications, it isn't worth it..

Going to send this over to OD as they have more experience with IV complcations..

BDD > OD

You hit an artery and should go to the hospital asap in my opinion DO NOT WAIT this is your ARM you could loose. That amount of swelling is EXTREMELY dangerous. You could loose all blood flow. This is a harm-reduction board but we are nto being over zealous. That amount of swelling so quick is a really bad sign.

It doesn't matter what you think you hit bro... don't youi think thats a weird reaction if you IVd into an actual vein? I mean come on common sense. I am sorry bro but you are scared about being labeled an addict.. listen, when you are an amputee people will not have to open up your medical file to know what's up.
