Misc question about vistaril

hey guys i have a question about vistaril. a friend of mine asked her shrink for xanax and got prescribed vistaril instead. i have heard of it but dont know much about it at all is it similar to xanax? i know its suppose to b non addictive and all that but thats about the extint of it. i am under the impression it just makes u sleep. any responses would b great. thanx

yea its just an antihistamine i think....i think the drugs name is hydroxyzine. it will make your friend sleepy and not feel to much like xanax. it will be more like taking benadryl.
i think it would work better at potentiating an opiate or benzo experience and not be a very useful drug on its own. but if your friend doesnt care about getting a xanax like high then it should be fine. Its should make her sleepy. but if she wants to get high its not so good.

Vistaril is hydroxyzine pamoate. It's not a benzodiazepine, and is not a good sleep aid. Xanax (alprazolam) is also not a good sleep aid in my opinion.

Both drugs have anxiolytic properties, but if you are expecting anything like a benzodiazepine, Vistaril will likely disappoint you.

It's OK, I just think that antihistamines tend to leave one groggy in the morning. A lot of sleep aids can though. I also tend to think of hydroxyzine as a better anxiolytic than a hypnotic agent.
