My son was forced to get the shot on june 29th 2019 of 234mg and then again on July 3rd of another 234mg they overdosed him and he isnt the same he didnt even need that shot they told him it will make the other meds work faster his life is horrible now he cant sit still and he hates the way he feels he cant take care of himself he is 21 years old I just want this shot to wear off and so he can get back to his normal life he is trying to go to school and find a job and he cant even do that so does anyone know if he was given that huge of amount and that close together plus given risperdal also and he is just depressed so he shouldn't even been given this anyways . I cant find out how to get this drug out of your system faster and is there anything the dr can give to help with the symptoms he is having with not sitting still anyone know and can help me out I want my son to get his life back

Both invega and risperidone have some serious side effects which including movement problems a doctor should be told about these before it gets worse. The doctor who gave these to a depressed person should have their medical licensee seriously questioned as risperdione is notorious for inducing suicidal feelings. It will take probably a month without any further antipsychotics been given to subside on alot of these effects in the mean time keep a eye on him and make sure hes feeling okay. A doctor will need to analyse the specific movement problem which i suspect may be some form of Akathisia.

Trust me I called the board of health and they are investigating this hospital the dr knows this happened to my son he was admitted into another hospital as I had to take him to the ER and they gave him medicine through an IV . I feel so sorry for him he has a dr appointment tomorrow with the same hospital that did this to him and I'm gonna question why they gave him such high doses . When I took him in for his follow up appointment his excuse why they gave him this is because he was a harm to himself and others and he is a repeat patient to that hospital. I'm sorry but they never did testing to see what he has he is depressed bad but I called the manufacture of invega and they even said the dr shouldn't of given him this shot that resperdone has to be tried first for a month and if that dont work then the shot but he shouldn't of even been given those medications anyways . I just fear that the shot has done permanent damage to his body and I pray to God it hasn't. It's been almost 1 month and he isnt getting any better. He says mom why did that hospital do this to me my life is gone . I've googled to see what he can do or take to get this out of his system faster and haven't been able to find anything I've been giving him bendril to help him sleep he was on a heart and tremor medicine but I took him off those cause he isnt shaking and his heart rate is better before that it was really high . I hope to get some solutions tomorrow morning when I take him back to the dr cause this is so stressful for all of us and a complete nightmare for my son .

Wait, so is your son being given Invega (presumably the once-a-month version, right?) AND risperidal at the same time?

Because that sounds like it is indeed too much.

Technically, the second shot of Invega is supposed to be less strong than the first. 4 days is also the bare minimum between the first two shots.

What's more, the idea behind the Invega shot is to eliminate the need the need for taking risperdal pills on a daily basis, at least temporarily. If the patient has been stabilized on the shot for the time being, they can then switch to the pills, but I question the wisdom of giving someone two shots (one of which is overdosed) AND immediately starting with the risperdal at the same time.

The problem with these drugs is that some doctors see these as chemical straightjackets, which I guess to some extent they are. However, in an acutely psychotic patient, they are unfortunately sometimes necessary. Depot shots help ensure compliance when the patient is not yet stable enough that they can be expected to reliably take their pills on a daily basis. However, in the long-term, it would be preferrable if the patient comes to the realization that the shot was an unfortunate necessity for their safety and that of others, and that it would be in their own best interest to try and work with the docs to find the optimal treatment. Going with a "better safe than sorry"-attitude and administering a highly unpleasant overdose will often just result in the exact opposite consequence, i.e. a patient who's even more paranoid, and less likely to comply with their treatment regimens.

On the upside, it is very unlikely that your son has actually suffered physiological damage. This condition of restlessness is called akathisia, and it will indeed disappear over time, and/or it can be mitigated once the right combination of meds is found. If he's not shaking, that atleast suggests the drug isn't blocking an extreme number of dopaminergic receptors (although I would suggest speaking to your doctor before giving him benadryl/diphenhydramine, because it could mask certain side-effects, and even intensify cardiac arrythmias).

Okay so he went to the dr and he says that shot should be out of his system completely and him cant sitting still isnt part of that shot he uped his cogentin to 4mg now 2mg 2 times a day morning and nite ... and I have to go back to him in a month he also said my son wasnt overdosed and that respdol was given to see if he was allergic to the shot which is bogus totally and the 234 mg and another one given 2 days later of 234 mg is the right dose which yet again I told him I talked to the pharsuical company and he just laughed at me I really dont think this dr is helping him at all
.. so now we wait a month to see if that cogentin with a higher dose helps with his problems but here he was on 1 mg 2 times a day and was on it for 1 month and it hasn't helped at all so I dont see how its gonna help with a little higher dose ... I just dont know what to do my son is bi polar and depressed someone said to try CBD and it might help I know nothing about this kind of stuff either I just want my son to get better and go on with his life

Hey there, I'm going to move this to the Mental Health subforum where you will get better answers (not really Psychedelic Drugs material).

That doctor sounds like a quack and a huge asshole, Invega is known for taking months and months to wear off, it's the whole point of it. Also prescribing 2 antipsychotics at a time is absurd.

The good news is that it WILL eventually wear off. It might not feel like it though, a lot of people have a really hard time with Invega. But as much as it may not seem like it, it WILL get better, but it may take a good number of months, unfortunately.

Keep your head up. <3
