Benzos Question about Temazepam/Hypnotic Benzos

I've read a lot of horror stories regarding benzo withdrawal, but in most cases they were related to anxiolytics like Xanax. I've been taking 60-90 mg of Temazepam daily for insomnia for about a year and half, and now want to quit. Do hypnotic benzos have the same withdrawal effects as anti-anxiety benzos? I just want to know if it's safe to quit cold turkey, or should I taper off?

If you are looking to taper off of benzos, please do so under the supervision of your doctor, and he can put you on a slow taper, ideally using diazepam due to its long half life and weak strength, allowing for more precise dosage cuts than high potency, long acting benzos, like clonazepam.

Refer to the Ashton Manual, and even print out a copy for your doctor if he thinks that you can discontinue benzos once physically dependant without a taper.

You'd definitely have severe withdrawal symptoms, with a high risk of seizures coming off 90mg/night. From my experience, hypnotics are much more difficult to discontinue in comparison to sedatives/anxiolytics.

Temazepam comes in 7.5mg, 15mg, 22.5mg, and 30mg if I remember correctly, so ask your doctor for help slowly tapering your dose down. You might reach a point when it's necessary to switch to another benzodiazepine altogether, such as diazepam or clonazepam.
