General question here for anyone who's had experience. If you had a choice of taking Suboxone or Subutex for a medically supervised taper, which would you prefer and why? Keep in mind, I'm doing this as prescribed and for the right reasons so I'm not looking for anything like, "Oh, definitely the Subutex because then I could bang it". The reason I'm asking is that I am 4 days into Suboxone taper and am scheduled to be switched to Subutex tomorrow because I have developed pitting edema in the past from the Naloxone in the Suboxone. But for some reason, no edema has occurred this time so I will have the option of staying on the Suboxone if I want. I'm just curious what others would prefer if they had a choice. Thanks.

Subutex is available as a generic so it would cost less.

Really there is no difference for most people.. some people get headaches from the naloxone in suboxone but they are in the minority.

If the naloxone gave you trouble in the past it seems wise to go onto the subutex?

This is really Basic Drug Discussion material but the difference is merely Suboxone is Buprenorphine/Naloxone 4:1 ratio. Subutex is simply Buprenorphine by itself. I prefer the Subutex by itself because I think it almost feels 'cleaner'. Oh and the last, and only other difference is taste. I'll let you decide which one tastes better.

Edit: I guess this could be tds with the withdrawal/taper part. I would go with Suboxone if you're trying to use it to actually quit. It just has a slight difference to me that makes it less abusable than Subutex. Maybe the naloxone actually has an effect? Anyways that's the two main difference between the two really. Good luck, bro! I'm basically in the same position.
