Help! Question about legal trippy gummies you can buy online

(I’m keeping this generic since I’m unclear if we can ask about brands and/or ask about specific articles found ‘round the web.)

We just experimented with something called Stardust, from a brand we bought online. This brand was recommended to us by three separate people, plus the reviews online looked great.

It was a fun little ride, and we bought some more. More akin to Mescaline than mushrooms; it was very external/social, but Sphongle sounded good.

The company also makes a version that contains amanita muscaria. I’m reading some warnings about this, both out there, and in here on the forums. What I’m not exactly clear on is if it’s the amanita muscaria itself or the specific brand that was found causing people to be sick, or what. I //read an article about the five best amanita muscaria gummies, and the brand we’ve already used is on that list, citing good testing practices as one of the good things. This opens another issue; how do I know the website with the article is reputable. Lol.

I’m not a novice user but am a novice when it comes to understanding the chemistry. Can someone point me to a “Amanita Muscaria For Dummies,” article somewhere? Any insight as to how people are navigating what seems to be a tricky situation would be appreciated.

Also, if I can post specific articles or ask about specific brands, please advise.

Thank you!

Good question. Normally brands are not discussed. Then again some things like kratom people have shown brands. So it has been a topic of discussion. I am not sure if it is a sourcing issue or not. It may be. Proceed cautiously. ;)

My issue with these gummies are the unknown. People can put whatever they want in it. And as we see some people got sick on some.

If you are using these gummies for psychedelic effect I would say maybe find some mushrooms first. If using for the muscaria sedative effect then really vet these places that sell them. I have no problem if a gummy is 15 mgs of 4-ACO-DET or something but only if properly labelled. I am sort of getting tired of vendors that experiment on curious people. They play games in a very serious subject. Facts and ingredients are really necessary.

I totally understand the curiosity. Let that curiosity help you become wise on the topics and that may save you from serious issues.

I came across this the other day
All patients managed by BRPC were reported to ingest different mushroom gummy brands, but all brands taken by the patients were labeled to contain muscimol,† ibotenic acid,§ and muscarine. To determine whether these mushroom nootropics also contained other substances, investigators purchased six packages (five different brands) during October at gas stations and smoke shops near BRPC for testing…Mushroom gummies in four of the six bags tested were found to contain unlabeled psilocybin or psilocin, both of which are schedule I substances not currently legal in Virginia, where they were sold (Table). Additional unlabeled substances were found, including caffeine, ephedrine, and mitragynine (an opioid agonist commonly known as kratom). Ibotenic acid, muscimol, and muscarine were not present in the matching library, and their presence in the gummies was undetermined

Woudnt it be a hundred times cheaper just to buy some muscaria?
I feel silly; I didn’t know it was a thing you could do, which is why I have been looking for safe legal workarounds.

Unfortunately, I have no source for mushrooms. I would love it if we did. I miss them so much.

Neither do I really although gifted some every so often. With legalization it seems to have gotten a little easier. I think in a few years (and in some states already) you can get them mailed to you. But yeah, glad you brought up the gummy topic. There was a thread where some gummies put people into a hospital and that is when the brand name talk came up in the mod area.

Excellent. Already proceeding wisely. Hey life is for learning. ;)

Look up a website, erowid.org, and navigate to the amanita muscaria page. Loads of old and new info there. Accurate too.

I wouldn’t trust these “legal high” brands personally. You can easily enough find online vendors selling actual amanita caps for reasonable prices if you look around. Personally I found them nausea inducing and lacking in desirable effects.

Magic mushrooms (psilocybin) are easy enough to find if you really search. Find a music scene, or a festival. They’re all over these days.

TY! I remember that place. It’s been so long since we’ve had anything interesting going on, I forgot all about it.

Just wanted to point out @Kathilliana that spores, and the materials to cultivate your own psilocybin containing fungi at home are completely unregulated as long as you're in the US. Always better to grow your own as opposed to trusting some random dealer.

That whole thing always intimidated me. I would need to watch someone do it to learn how to grow. Growing mushrooms takes a little skill I believe. I would not know where to start even after reading the shroomery and other places. I guess there is a little hurtle to get through.

I have no experience but I believe there are "set it and forget it" kits where you literally just need to inject the spores into the bag

There's plenty of info on Shroomery about growing too

Honestly, start out with some mason jars that you follow any pf tek guide for, knock them up with any old spore syringe, and once it's colonized, pop it into a monotub. It's the closest to neglect tek that's tough to fuck up and it still yields well. It's also wicked easy once this works, to move over to dripping a little bit of your syringe onto agar beforehand, so you never have to buy syringes again. If you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out, I've spent a fair amount of time cultivating fungi.

I do not have the talent, understanding nor desire to do this on my own. I appreciate those that can, though. We all have to know our limitations.

Our son tried that, twice. Nothing. It’s harder than it looks, and those that can do it shouldn’t diminish what they can do.

@Kathilliana I appreciate the compliments on this, I suspect that what people excel at growing/synthesizing is likely just a chance thing. I am terrible at growing cannabis but fungi came quite naturally. I have friends who can grow cannabis with their eyes closed but can't get a jar of grain to colonize with mycelium. Perhaps it's reflective of the ways we pay attention to tasks differently, idk.

More on the topic of the thread, were any of the smoke shop products you came across pleasant (or useful) enough to where you'd revisit them?

By “smoke shop product,” I think you mean the stuff I bought online that is legal?

We bought more, and just tried it again, two weeks later. It was too soon. We had fun, no doubt, but the visuals were less. We assume because our brain hadn’t fullly recovered.

We will try again in a month. It’s a nice little ride, and if it’s all we can ever get, it will have to do.

I do miss fractals and other CEV, though.
