Good Evening,

I was way born after 1985, the year Methaqualone was labeled as a Controlled Substance I in the USA. Like most people, after seeing "The Wolf Of Wall Street" I was interested in this prescription downer. Wiki and many other websites say Methaqualone has many similar characteristics as a barbiturate. I have tried Fioricet without Codeine which contained Butablital, a strong barbiturate. I would take around 300 mg - 400 mg of it at a time and really enjoyed it. Really nice euphoria feeling almost similar to benzos.

Has anyone ever experimented with Authentic Quaaludes? The reason why I say authentic because they have been banned in the United States for 30 years now and people make mimics of them containing Diazepam. On the other side, it doesn't seem to hard to get them because it is only a Controlled Substance III in Canada and I don't know if this is completely true, but people say it is still prescribed in South Africa under the name of Mandrax. For all the people who lived through the 70's and 80's where the drug was extremely popular, what did they feel like? Do they feel like most modern day Barbiturates such as Fioricet or Nembutal? Please share your stories or knowledge about this legendary drug, I would like to know more.

Here's is BL's entire knowledge/take on Quaaludes rendered down into two points:

1) they aren't available anymore in most of the world,

and

2) they smoke crushed-up methaquaalone in South Africa.

Oh, and

3) they were the freakin' shit if you like drugs.

(although this has probably been played up to a large extent by their unavailability...as I've said before, if Xanax were outlawed by the government tomorrow and taken off the market, in a decade or two there would be drug addicts waxing poetic about how amazing alprazolam was)

They're still manufactured in certain parts of the world, like South Asia. I'm actually surprised that they're not still around, as they were circulating on the black market long after they were banned...in the book "Why Our Drug Laws Have Failed" by James Gray, he cites a case of a Mexican kid getting arrested at the border while trying to smuggle over 100,000 Quaalude tablets into the United States. And that happened in the late 90's, not that long ago.

This stuff is so overplayed. I doubt quaaludes were that great, if they were so incredible I'm sure more large criminal organizations would be mass producing them for black market sales. Sure they were probably pretty good, but not nearly as good as what people imagine. Many people are disappointed by heroin when they first try it because they have these grand thoughts that heroin is supposed to be the most euphoric feeling you could ever experience.

I admit I was intrigued by quaaludes when first heard of them, but when I heard them compared to barbs and benzos I knew they couldn't be the greatest thing since mdma.

From personal experience with Methaqualone. It's nothing special. From another friend that has had Methaqualone and a fair amount of the analogues. He came to the conclusion that Ethaqualone was better than Methaqualone. I believe I still say Mebroqualone is better than Methaqualone. It's just a medium/nice Barb high. It's nothing really special in my opinion. Worthwhile to try if you ever get the chance to try them, but, not worth buying a plane ticket to South Africa to get it. Just get Diconal instead :p. I believe both need a "special" license to prescribe them.
