Pyschedelics are not suited to everybody

If you are thinking about trying a psychedelic drug then I believe there a few questions you need to ask yourself first. If you simply want to get 'fucked' then i would strongly advise that you don't take any psychedelic substance, you will more than likely become more 'fucked' then you have ever been. Stick to stimulants or some other 'simpler' high.

Some may believe that using psychedelic drugs somehow makes you more intelligent, this is simply not true. They can, however make you more thoughtful and increase your understanding of your own mind. I believe that the more intelligent a person is, the more they are likely to benefit from a full blown mind bending trip. I like to use the analogy that no dog would enjoy the effects of LSD, similarly those humans of lesser intelligence are less likely to appreciate its full effects and possibly become overwhelmed by it.
The more you use LSD then quite simply the greater the chances are that you will have a bad trip. It is these 'bad trips' which provide you with the deepest insight into your own mind and allow you to change for the better should you choose to.

I have experienced a 'bad trip' due to an unexpected change in setting (before this change I was experiencing a high unparalleled by other types of drugs, a contentment and peace with life itself) and whilst it was extremely unpleasant at the time once I had come down to a level by which I could distinguish between reality and my mind I felt no lasting psychological damage (such as fear, anxiety or panic) and I will most definitely continue to use psychedelics (though with a much greater appreciation of their power!).
Put simply if you can sit back and relax with your friends and take a mild dose of LSD with no fear of interruption then you will enjoy the 'party acid' experience of amazing musical appreciation and the general euphoria of mental clarity. If you cannot guarantee a safe/undisturbed setting and have taken a significant amount (enough to take yourself on the closed eye kaleidoscopic journey) then be prepared to test yourself mentally further than ever before.

I tend not to agree with the right 'set' argument as I have witnessed people who claim to suffer from anxiety or depression thoroughly enjoy a psychedelic experience and the 're-wiring' of the brain which can occur. Many tend to agree that the after effects of contentment last between two weeks and a month, some even feel better for far longer. Most important is the presence of a non judgmental and sober person who can reassure you should you feel unsafe/insane at any point.

Please use these amazing chemicals responsibly and remember that at all times it is you, and not the drug, which is in control. Drugs should not be blamed for any behavior! :)

Nice first post. Welcome, by the way :)

Being someone who has been through many Psyche experiences, many good, many bad, I can safely say these drugs are clearly not for everyone. With that said, I don't think these chemicals make a person more intelligent, or unlocks hidden doorways in our brains. I believe these experiences simply allow us to view the world in new perspectives, which in turn makes us more aware of everything. This can ultimately be good, or bad, depending on the individual and how they choose to view this new perspective.
