I'm the go-to guy for help with chemistry related stuff normally, and a friend came to me with these things saying that they gel and he can't get around it. I figured it was probably easier than he was making it sound and decided to have a go at them.... what in god's name are they putting in these things? I can think of a few ways to get around it using lab stuff (mixed solvent + celite and vac filter), but that's beyond buddy's kind of commitment, so i'm stumped.
Tried:
1. using cold water, mixing quickly, prefiltering with cotton then TRYING to use a micron filter (Gum up almost instantly, had two filters explode from the pressure)
2. figured making it hypertonic might mess things up, so added a little salt - gum
3. heat - gum
4. LOTS of water - slime
5. Absorbing slime/gum onto excess of cotton. Loaded cotton into barrel of syringe, then "juiced" the cotton with the plunger, rinsed a few times.
After what felt like hours I managed to get something out of methods 1,4,5 combined, but it was an incredible amount of work (just general PITA and real physical work from the force required to actually move water through this stuff. After all that work, the subjective report was that it still was much weaker than it should have been... can't comment on that though.
I would congratulate the company that made these but since junkies are going to shoot it regardless of how snotty it is, they haven't done anything other than to possibly stroke some people out.
Any thoughts on these things?
The one idea I've had is to use some kind of diffusion or ghetto chromatography column using sand in an old large syringe barrel. The diffusion method I was thinking of was using dry paper towel to draw up the water through capillary action, then prepping from the PT, but that's kinda nasty.
