Purple hairs?

I have heard lots of things about how weed strains with purple hairs are superior to those with hairs of other colors in general. Is this a good rule of thumb, or do purple hairs just mean that it's good weed?

i've never seen weed with purple hairs. as for purple weed, it's always been over-priced and overrated as far as i'm concerned.

Have you guys smoked some professionally grown pruple strains?
I used to often get 100% organically grown Purple Kush that was of devestating potency(AAAA quality as we say around here).only about 10% of the buds were actually purple though. And some of the best weed in my area right now is very purple.on the other hand though I've also seen purple bud that was total garbage.

i have never seen purple hairs

-sativa (the best) usually is purple
and
-indica usually has orange hairs

maybe its some hybrid of sativa and indica

people! understand: color does not have anything to do with dank-ness. ive had bud with bright red hairs and it was disapointing.

who said bud with bright red hairs gets you high? its the trichomes that get you high, not the hairs. and i have had some dank purps in my days. it all depends on the strain. ive also seen pictures on the web of bud with pink hairs. looks delicious.

Frost will make "leaves" turn purple. And lack of newts will also turn "leaves" purple. Any pics you can post? Normally hairs are white , orange , brown @ red in color. Strain @ time till harvast is dependendant on these colors

You're supposed to harvest when most of the hairs turn an amber color, but purple doesn't really mean anything. But some strains do have a purple color naturally and can be very good.

Those hairs or better yet "Pistils" do not judge the potency of the bud, they do not let you know when to harvest either. You harvest based on the color of the Trichomes. Pistils do nothing more but catch pollen.

Actually I believe when they change colors its a way of showing how compounds have degraded to other compounds, I forget how it goes but if you harvest later its more stony and earlier is more heady. I remember reading it off a growing site.

actually the hairs are a failproof matter bof judging when to harvest about 60% should have turned brown and shriveled

purple strains that i get are very very very potent and very very good also =D
i smoke purple almost every day and i dont have a problem with the price at all. how much did someone sell it to you for?

I can't believe the discussion in the CD is of this low quality.

Purple or magenta coloring shows up in plants due to anthocyanin which is a specific plant pigment. It shows up for several reasons, none of which are mutually exclusive. Cold as someone mentioned, but more specifically nutrient lock-out and therefore stress which kills off chlorophyll so the purple pigmentation shows up. If a plant is purple at the end it has had that pigment the entire time you can just see it now because the green is gone. With white pistils however there is less pigmentation and the white is simple water filled cells. As they die the coloration of the pistil shows. It has no bearing on potency and only a little bearing on what type of creatures will pollinate that plant. Bees tend to find purple more attractive while orange will attract more butterflies. Maybe specific strains have adapted to that in their region, but the weed we all smoke(d) comes from a very limited gene pool so that theory is highly unlikely, but then again the lovely cannabis plant is a tetraploid so there are plenty of wonderful aberrations which is what makes each plant so lovely. That is also why I'm pro-life when it comes to weed. Give every weed a chance to grow. Amen.

Peace,
Pimpy

EDIT: Okay so anthocyanin is produced once chlorophyll breaks down. Carotenoids are always present though.

Absolutely not. The hairs don't mean shit. The trichome method is the only one that has any merit.
