purple-black v grey-black

Pills I know are good e's test grey then black almost immediately with no trace of purple. But purple black is supposed to be e' and grey-black is supposed to be that bad for you stuff that begins with D... How can I tell the difference for a new pill that I haven't tried yet?
 
a fast change to black (3 to 5 seconds) indicates MDxx. a slow change to grey/black (15 or more seconds) indicates DXM.
smoke is often seen in DXM reactions. this apparently happens at the very begining of the reaction, and a long time before the solution turns black. MDXX sometimes smokes as well, especially when it is in strong concentration and not masked by fillers, but the difference is it will give an immediate change to black.
the MDxx black should actually be a very, very dark blue. make sure you are doing the test in a good white light and you should see it. there should be a very short flash of blue at the begining of the reaction.

when we test.. we usually get straight to black, then when we tip the plate get medium purple streaks.. ur opinion? I thought that blue was mda?!?!?

The DXM reaction isn't in the blue/purple family at all...that's how I can tell for sure. If you've ever seen DXM tested, it just doesn't look right. When I tested it, I swirled the plate around a bit and the actual color was a very dark green. Also, remember that even though the DXM reaction takes longer to complete...it does *start* immediately. I think that confuses some people.
 
im not even going to get into the differences between purple/black/dark blue. too many people think they know what purple is and it's different to what 10 other people might think. and that doesnt even include colour blind people.
just look at the colour charts supplied with your testing kit. this should be your only reference.
