okay i recently aquired some xtc in capsules and the person i got em from told me that it was pure mdma...i ez-tested it and sure enough it turned black...but that still doesnt mean its pure...i do have some closed end capillary tubes, and a thiele tube so i could do a melting point test, but without knowing the hydration of the salt you cant really be sure...is there any way i can know for sure if its pure??

try doing a melting point anyway. shulgin reports that the literature values include all possible two-degree ranges over a set of about six or seven degrees, so verify that your sample melts in that range.
closed-end capillary tubes.. i was raised on the fisher-johns melting point apparatus myself, probably because it's cheaper. =P
if you're reasonably well-equipped, consider using TLC and carefully applying the reagent to the plate (preferably Mandelin reagent like E2).

Some things used to stomp on amphetamines are not that soluble in water. mdma is. If you put 150mg mdma in 100 units of water it should all disolve. Of course, if it's cut with inactive substances then no big deal, the effects will be exactly the same, you'd just have to take more. You can also put the powder under a microscope. Different crystals of different drugs are usually dissimalar.
