Mental Health psychiatrists/psychologists is Australia

Hi guys

does anyone know any good psychiatrists or psychologists in Sydney or eastern sea board of Australia. I really dont want to spend months or years moving from one to another. If anyone knows of any good ones in Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane please let me know.

I understand the frustration of having to make one appointment after the other when searching for the right one for you. Unfortunately, even if you do get a recommendation the chance of getting a referral from a doctor (which you will need) for the same person may be slim. You also have to take into account the workload of the person referred. You may have to wait months to even get an initial appointment.

I wish you luck though, I'm undertaking the same search as you at the moment.

In my experience, you can actually ask for a referral to a specific specialist. Of course it's up to the doctor if they actually agree to it or not. But I've successfully been referred to several specialists before, upon my request.
However, sometimes it is just pot-luck with regards to who you get referred. Especially in the field of psychology/psychiatry. Everyone is different and meshes well with different doctors, so even if someone here says "Dr XYZ is great, go see them", you might go to Dr XYZ and be thoroughly underwhelmed/dissatisfied.

The best advice I can offer you is, go to your local GP and ask them for a referral to a psychiatrist, and try them out. For psych specialists it's better (in my experience) to have someone LOCAL, so that when you're really struggling and need to see them the most, they aren't too far away and it's not such a hassle to visit them.
