psychiatrist prescriptions

Im not sure where this goes.

I am supposed to see a pyschiatrist this Tuesday and I am wondering if they still prescribe stimulants like Reactivan to elevate a person's mood. I dont know the names of too many prescription stimulants

Stimulants have been the only thing ever to take away %100 of my anxiety and depression. I am not talking about stuff as strong as cocaine or meth, just stuff like decent diet medicine. Phendimetrazine has been THE most effective mood elevator for me.

Have you seen your primary doctor at all for this ? I do know that primary care physicians prescribe such drugs. I'm fairly certain that psychiatrists do as well. I think you have a fair chance of getting a prescription assuming you really need it.

its a messed up situation from doctor to doctor, a lot of factors are involved with primary doctors if you want them to RX you psychiatric drugs. For example a primary doctor of mine for 7 years i had, preferred he be my prescriber to treat my ADD my excuse was "was diagnosed in past and im in college now and working and very distracted, i was on strattera (they might try to give u that if ur an adult, its not recreational) and it made me feel like a zombie doc" he said ok i will prescribe you adderall 20mg once daily and i will see you next month, hopefully everything works well and you can avoid seeing a psychiatrist" however ALOT of doctors will not write a script for controlled substances for SHIT, they will 80% likely throw u the famous SSRI treatment (paxil, lexapro, etc)
On the flip side if your just seeing a primary doctor and don't know them very well, they will fuck you and say "im sorry you would have to go to a psychiatrist for ADD medications since that is a mental health issue" which SUCKS. i just found a new primary last week, and told him my suboxone doctor has me on Xanax, but only temporarily until i find a primary doc to RX it as my suboxone doc said-my primary DENIED ME and said my diagnosis of anxiety/ptsd is a serious concern and i would need a psychiatrist for that. but he said "i cant just let u withdrawl it i will decease you 1mg a month" so now next month i will be only getting 60 blue 1mg xanax...:-(
PRimary doctors can presrcibe xanax, adderall if they wanted to, but i guess it all depends on your relationship wit ur primary and the trust between eachother

most doctors can prescribe anything, its down to their judgment usually

edit: assuming they are a medical doctor lol

Alot of dr's dont script stimulants for anxiety as they cause anxiety. Atleast psychiatrists anyways. Have you had a script for a stimulant before or did you buy some and like how it made you feel? If you go into a drs office complaining about depression and anxiety you will most likely wind up on an anti depressant. Also it's hard to tell a dr a drug you took that was not scripted to you worked for your anxiety and depression. Good luck. Best thing to do is to complain about ADD and then you will be more likely to get what you're looking for.

Nowadays everybody wanna talk like they got somethin' to say,
but if it comes out when they move their lips like a bunch of gibberish,
motherfuckers that, they forgot about Dre.

Onto more serious things:

When I first saw my shrink about my panic attacks, his first treatment was prozac, then zoloft, then xanax.

Prescribing benzodiazepines for anxiety/panic attacks seems to have become a last resort sort of thing and antidepressants being the first line treatment. Some psychiatrists will prescribe a benzo for like a month until the effects of the antidepressants kick in.

Thats how I got stuck on benzodiazepines for the rest of my life...my doctor forgot to stop prescribing the Klonopin & Xanax and of course I never said a thing.
