psychiatric units

I've just had bad experiences. If boredom could kill I would have died in there many times over. It sounds petty but if you're in one of those places for 15 months you start to realize it would have been better to have just done something illegal and gone to prison because conditions are better in the UK. I wish I had had some fun instead of being incarcerated by a bunch of psychiatrists who all had different opinions anyway, making it pointless.

Most of the people I saw in there didn't belong there anyway.

hi i use too work as a security guard in a psychiatric unit in kildare, ireland it was a free public service unit run by the hse,and i have to say it was great,i would live there if i could, they had their own games room with a pool table they had a tv room with the sky world package.they had a room called a green room they would get tokens to enter it you just sit on a vibrating chair[i cant explain it but its great].the food was incredible it was like top pub food they would often get roast beef dinners, steak etc...and on top of all this luxury they were high on xanax and valum, lol

now that would be the life!!!

what are your experiences of these units??

Even though it may sound like it's a great deal -- food, games, benzos, etc -- it really isn't that great in the bigger picture of things. It's after all a psychiatric ward, not a vacation. You can have all the food and games you want to if you work for it...a psychiatric hospital is not a place where one should want to stay :?

The psychiatric hospitals around here are awful. I've never been admitted, but I've visited friends in them...it's like Fort Knox trying to get in there...prepare to be searched, go through a metal detector, and be monitored. It's more or less a prison with nurses and doctors. Also, the environment is sad...it's not a fun thing to see people depressed, hopeless, etc... that doesn't bring me pleasure anyway. The patients in the psychiatric units I have been in are all unhappy.

Are the patients happy from your experience?
