Okay, not really. But this is weird, yo:

http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0063972

Lifetime psychedelic use was not significantly associated with any of the eight past year psychiatric symptom indicators (aOR range 0.8 to 1.1), and lifetime psychedelic use was significantly associated with a lower rate of one of the seven psychotic symptoms (“Felt a force taking over your mind”: aOR 0.7, p = 0.03). [...] Lifetime psilocybin use and lifetime mescaline/peyote use was significantly associated with a lower rate of one of the specific psychotic symptoms (“Felt a force taking over your mind”: psilocybin, aOR 0.6, p = 0.004; mescaline/peyote: aOR 0.7, p = 0.04).
Stratified samples.

[...] Among females, psychedelic users had a lower rate of the psychotic symptom “felt force taking over mind” (aOR 0.5, 95% CI 0.3 to 0.7, p = 0.0005). Among younger people, psychedelic users had a lower rate of symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder (aOR 0.8, 95% CI 0.6 to 1.0, p = 0.03). Among older people, psychedelic users had a lower rate of [...] the psychotic symptom “felt force taking over mind” (aOR 0.5, 95% CI 0.3 to 0.8, p = 0.01). [...] Among people without a lifetime extremely stressful event, psychedelic users had a lower rate of symptoms of psychosis (aOR 0.5, 95% CI 0.3 to 0.9, p = 0.03) and the psychotic symptoms “felt force inserting thoughts” (aOR 0.4, 95% CI 0.2 to 0.9, p = 0.02) and “felt force steal thoughts” (aOR 0.3, 95% CI 0.1 to 0.7, p = 0.008).
I have no idea. I cannot make sense of this at all.

That's good because apparently tinfoil hats only work if they stretch to the floor and you stand on a sheet of metal. Then they act as a Fariday cage.

To be honest, this is really starting to fuck with my social life.

Do psychedelics prevent you from developing certain psychotic delusions, or do certain delusions prevent you from using psychedelics? If I were to believe some external force was trying to take over my mind, taking any psych would be high on my list of very bad ideas ;)

Maybe it's because those who have already experienced altered mental states from drugs and have realized it's really nothing to be afraid of would be less prone to anxiety etc from experiencing altered mental states even when not on drugs too.

I think that's naïve. I know people who have experienced psychedelic states and think is very much something to be scared of.

Maybe I should have rephrased it as "not being dangerous" instead of "not something to be afraid of". That's what I really meant.

It depends what you mean by dangerous. I'm sure some of the above mentioned people would consider the psychedelic state psychologically dangerous for them.

^The psychedelic state is dangerous, and I think it's wise to always realize that. But psychedelics can also help one become stronger, too.

I think the reason why people feel more "protected" against mental attacks after taking psychedelics is because while tripping, one is focused on every little thing that is going on in the mind. By calmly observing one's own mental activity, one gains an understanding of various triggers and tendencies.

It is for this reason that I think psychedelics should be made (safely) available to those who wish to use them. We need a culture that respects true "shamans," who are qualified to dispense psychedelic drugs, and who also work as trip-sitters when needed.

Pffft, I came in here to have a serious discussion about transcending to Thetan Operating Level V and all I find is a bunch of people talking nonsense. You all belong back on prehistoric Xenu.

I honestly don't feel like those symptoms are necessarily indicative of psychotic tendencies, everyone has strange thoughts every once in a while.
Sure people with mental disorders may have thoughts similar but to indicate such a direct correlation between the two is ridiculous imo
