Sorry i'm sure there's been similar topics about this, but I just wanted some help specifically for my situation.

So i've been on prozac for about 3 months right now. My doctor prescribed it to me for anxiety. I don't necessarily need it, my mom told my doctor I have severe anxiety issues which is totally not true. (i'm 16 btw)

I haven't been taking my prozac as prescribed every day, just 4-5 times a week. I'm on 40mg a day. Do I have to taper in order to get off prozac or can I just stop all together?

Even though I don't take it that much my rolls seem pretty weak. It's summer, I'm trying to have fun and I really want to roll next weekend.

Thanks.

Why the hell are you prescribed prozac if you feel fine? How can u accept it and take those pills i dont understand. If you say you feel totally ok, then dont take them!!! And tell that fucker doctor that you dont need em. I mean IF YOU FEEL FINE, WHY THE FUCK YOU NEED THOSE PILLS? And if you were taking those pills about month or more you have to wait 2 -4 weeks before you can normally roll. Prozac will block Ecstasy, so you wount feel real effects.

I agree with eLW. Doctors are so quick to prescribe antidepressants these days. If you feel fine then get off that stuff.

While I am usually highly skeptical of American state sanction dealers (doctors :)), you should be still be highly careful with stopping your SSRIs. I understand you want roll, we all do :), but there will be more time for many more rolls. Believe it or not, but rolls become a lot more fun and "defined" when you grow a little older. It's not that the effects change, it's more like how you perceive the effects change.

There is no need to take half the dose of Prozac. That's pointless. Either keep to your script or quit them completely. This 4-5 times a week thing is no good. It won't give you the full medical benefits and it won't let you roll. SSRI have longish half-lives so it will take a few weeks to clear out of your system.

I think the best course of action for you is to talk to your parents first, convince them that you shouldn't be talking SSRI and then talk to your doctor. If you truly don't need them, them I am sure you will be able to convince your parents and the doctor to stop giving you SSRIs.

Take care man!

Normally I always agree, but he was prescribed them for anxiety problems. You're not his doctor, and you're not him. Let him make up his mind and figure things out. You're not medically trained enough to give him credible advice concerning his medication. Doctors are real quick to prescribe you something, they get money. If you talk to them and you don't need it, then they should take you off. They can't force a drug on you if you don't need it. Good advice levictus. :)

I doubt even if you stopped now on your SSRI that the MDMA would work next weekend. Stop your script and stop taking them if they aren't helping, then give it a few weeks (4 or so) and then try rolling, you should have much better results.

Some good food for thought in this thread.

Please do not just stop using an anti depressant. That can cause all sorts of bad side effects.

Please ensure you use the anti depressant exactly as you were prescribed them. They were given to you for a reason and its not for anyone here to determine if you should be using them or not. If you want to stop using then you must discuss it with your doctor first.

mdma will generally not work at all for those using an ssri. Please read the special section for anti depressants in the basics section of the Directory.

mdma is not a good idea for anyone who suffers depression.

First off, never ever stop taking an ssri cold turkey. Your body/brain becomes dependent on them and you could go through some significant withdrawals. You need to taper, particularly since you have been on the drug for several months.

If you don't feel you need to be on prozac then that is something you need to work out with your mom and your doctor, and you need to get off the prozac in a safe way.

I do not recommend taking mdma either. The affects will be blocked because of the prozac, you may feel *something* but it won't be a full blown mdma experience. You also run the risk of serotonin syndrome as well.

Why parents put their children on ssri's is fucking beyond me. I won't take one myself and I sure as fuck wouldn't willy nilly put my child on one.
