PROVIGIL

Provigil is a fairly new stimulatory agent that is being manufactured and marketed by a pharmaceutical company named Cephylon (sp?). Provigil was originally brought to market with an indication for the treatment of narcolepsy. Since that time the drug has enjoyed fantastic growth, and it seems that physicians keep finding more and more uses for it - outside of it's original FDA labeling. In the past year it has also aquired an indication for Fatigue related to Multiple Slerosis. It is also commonly used now as a "breakthrough" stimulant for patients suffering from ADHD, and do not not respond adequately to Adderoll, Ritalin or Concerta alone.
Provigil CAN absolutely have recreational value! It all depends on what you think is a good time. I have found that provigil is a great drug to use to help stay up when one is very tired, and offers a very clean and clear mental high, or maybe the term "alertness" would be more appropriate. True, it is not like agents in the the amphetamine family, but I find it to be an incredibly useful, (and not to mention much safer) alternative.

For me 200mg(one tablet) Provigil worked just as well as 200+mg of adderall for all-night study sessions. Save this pill for when you NEED to stay up.
 
No google is going to have jack shit on its method of action. No one is quite sure how it works and even a good look at medline won't help you much.
Quick summary from what I have found out on medline. A good deal of evidence seems to indicate that unlike the amphetamines cocaine etc.. it has no direct effect on dopamine release. On the other hand DAT transporter knockout mice don't show any awakeness/alertness effects from provigal.
So god knows how it works. I imagine their is some quite intersting neurobiology to be done here potentially shedding a great deal of light on the nature purpose and regulation of sleep.
Don't tell people to go google things when the answers aren't there.

Just a quick comment the fack that some studies do not show an increase in extracellular dopamine could mean several things, the increase is quite small, is in a localized part of the brain as yet untested, it has some effect on the reuptake terminals that somehow doesn't increase extracellular dopamine or any number of other things. The point being this in now way contradicts the results that the dopamine transporter is necessery for the wakefullness promoting effects of modafinal.
 
is this the same drug that bluelight had an article posted on the main site about........ the drug that people use to "skip" sleeping? or is that something different? anyone know what im tlakin about?
 
This is the stuff that the Military uses right? Dexedrine derivitave right? Modafinil and Provigil are just different names right?
There was thread about the military use and it had a bunch of info...I think...
 
Well what part of "this isn't a dexedrine derivative" didn't you understand?
The chemical name for modafinil is 2-[(diphenylmethyl)sulfinyl]acetamide. The chemical name for dexedrine is d-alpha-methyl phenethylamine. They have some similar pharmacological effects in lab animals but you don't derive one from the other.

Well...Provigil = Modafinil, however, I cannot find any evidence that points to a direct link to dextroamphetamine. (Dexadrine)

They SEEM similar enough though don't they?
I looked through Erowid for awhile, even tried to compare molecules...lol there isn't one for Dexadrine, and Modafinil doesn't match Amphetamines too closely. But, what do I know, i'm not a chemist, i'm a guinea pig. :)
